For those of you that fish the Skykomish, be aware that there has been a number of vehicle break-ins and rip-offs as of last Sunday. A friend of mine informed me recently, that he lost $2,500 worth of gear near Sultan, and a friend of his was also hit. There has also been similar incidents at the Ben Howard launch. It could be the same Low-lifes operating the secluded parking lots. I was ripped off up at Reiter several years ago. Do yourself a favor and engrave your treasured gear with an electric pencil so they are identifiable, should they ever be recovered by the authorities. Never leave your valued gear in plain sight. I know this advice is common knowledge, but we never think about it until it's too late. I learned the hard way. Let's look out for each other, and if you witness any suspicious activity, ie: break-ins in progress, try to get a desciption and license plate number and report it to the local authorities. These SOB's won't stop until they're caught and may very well be sitting on a cache of stolen goods ... some of it could be yours. I don't advocate vigilante-ism but this type of crime should not be tolerated. Thanks for letting me rant.

AD Pose, thanks for the info. Maybe I could get some of my Special Forces buds to set up a sniper? Nah, the scum isn't worth the ammo. A set-up team with a video camera and cell phone might be a good thing though Seems to be a rash of that around lately. One of these fools is going to run into the wrong individual who will take them out to the woodshed for a good old fashioned whoopin' And then the loser will probably take the guy protecting his property to court, good old fashioned greed

Thanks for the heads-up ADP. I saw two guys up at Reiter on Tuesday that were not there to fish because they were wearing street clothes, and didn't have fishing poles either. As I was leaving they were heading down the path toward the river, so thought they might be just checking out the area. They could have been checking to see how far away everyone was from the parking lot too, I suppose. The best thing to do is not leave any personal stuff in you vehicle, cell phones, wallets, credit card receipts stuff like that. If I see anyone like that again, I'll go right up and ask what they are there for, trying to helpful an all you know. That way I'll have a better way to identify them, if any of you see anyone that seems out of place I hope you will do the same . Another thing to do, if you don't see what they are driving, ask them or wait around till they get in a vehicle then get the plate number. If we all work together we can stop this crap!

Once my oars were stolen when I rode back with my bike to get my car. I took my rods with me but the oars were a bit long & heavy to carry on a mountain bike. Besides, I did not have the "caution" red flags with me!

My buddy and I both had our trucks broken in to on Sunday the 17th. One was parked at Ben Howard and one at Sultan.
Spotted a county mounty on the turn around and stopped to report the break ins. He said he had already taken two other reports. Since my truck was at the Sultan lot I had to give my report to the Sultan police. That officer said he had taken four other reports.
I guess the low life started at the bottom of the river and pretty much hit every parking spot up the river.
They didn't get rich of the stuff in either of our trucks, but forking over the $100 deductable to relace a window sure sucks.

I expect that some low life individual is going to get knee-capped before this is settled... It is unfortunately a window of how our society has "evolved". In spite of my wise ass remarks about a sniper, I hope no one takes the law into their own hands, other than calling the cops, because you know who will lose in the long run. As stated above, lets look out for each other, and if you see suspicious activity, report it to the proper authorities. (Hell of it is, they'll be back out on the streets in no time flat )

I spoke with one of Sultan's finest today at the Sultan launch. He said it happened again today. From what I gathered this person is looking into vehicles to spot valuables and then smashes a window, grabs and flees.Very fast and leaves other items in the vehicle behind.During midday too.If you see anyone looking into vehicles, watch carefully.

Some countries have laws in effect that punish convicted thieves with the loss of a hand, damn good idea I think, the hell with criminals rights, how about victims rights, I've been a victim 3 times and I'm damn tired of it. I know that there are a lot worse crimes out there but this is 1 that affects everyone at some time or another and nothing makes my blood boil more then a scumbag, lowlife, thief. Thanks for letting me vent.

Thanks for the heads up, guys. I fish the Skykomish system quite a bit so I appreciate the info. Over the last few years I have made a habit of NOT leaving any fishing gear or other valuables in my car if it is not in my immediate sight. I had an expensive cd player jacked from my driveway in all of about 60 seconds so be aware that even if you are close to your car things can happen fast. I have a new truck now with stock stereo and all the rods and reels, backpacks, etc. go with me. [Bleeeeep!], I even had a guy try to lift rods out of my boat at the Dutch Cup in Sultan once. Right in plain sight too. He claimed that he was "just looking" in my boat, my friend Big Dave and I gave him a lesson in the finer points of look but don't touch. I hate having to worry about bringing extra gear when I'm bankin' it for fear of getting ripped off if I leave anything behind. I would love to dish out a well-deserved ass beating to any criminal caught in the act. I am not a vigilante or anything but car prowlers are right up there with the Taliban in my book. Sounds like we need to organize a special action group to bust some butt. I'll volunter to leave my rig with all kinds of "bait" at one of those spots. Course I'm gonna be sittin in the bushes waitin to carry out some rive justice. Whats the pattern on these breakins? Gooose

Sounds like a plan Goose. Maybe we could leave a window or two down with a new GL3 and a cell phone on the front seat. lol (just kidding)
I too fish the Sky all the time and have never had any problems or have heard of any problems til now. It makes me sick to think of these idiots sneaking around our rigs. We need to keep an eye out and report these sad sacks.

I've got the Ghillie suit and a nice little rifle. I'm off for the next two weeks. Maybe it is time to go "cougar" huntin' up near that area. Whatever you do, don't go out there undergunned, cause these predators might just want to fight back.
