Planning a trip into Craig this summer 1st. week in Aug. Flying into Ketchikan, guess a ferry ride takes you over to Prince of Wales Is.( how much $? For the ferry, passenger only. ) how does one get to Craig from the dock without a rental car? I've got friends in Craig, but whould like to save them the drive over to pick me up. 1st. time in Alaska, man I'm getting pumped just thinking about it!! laugh laugh

You can fly from the airport to craig. I cannot recall the cost but takes less time the the ferry ..

You can also have one of the car rental outfits in craig leave a car for you at the Hollis ferry terminal.

Do a search for alaska ferry schedules and rates.

Have fun

I'm don't think a rental car will work for me, unless its the only way to go. Any bus service or taxi's up thier? After getting to Craig I'm all takin care of. How many miles from the ferry dock to Craig? Man I gotta get a Alaska atlas & Gazetteer eek

Chrome/22, I think its 15 to 18 miles of paved road from the ferry to Craig, don't know what what the ferry cost or what it would cost for a ride into Craig but 2 years ago it was 70 bucks to take a float plane from K-town to Craig.
Who will you be fishing with? I spent 6 years guiding for a resort near Craig and I know about half the residents in Craig/ Klawock. You're going up at a good time, early Aug. is the tail end of king season, not alot of kings but the last 2 weeks of July and the first week of Aug. may be your best shot at a "big one" 50+, this is also when the silver should be in thick and are averaging 8-12 lbs. (6 per person a day)unfortunately this is peak time for pinks and sometimes its hard to get thru them to get to the real fish. Good luck, let me know if you have any ?, I know the area well. smile

AK, let me get back to you on the family name. My wife set me up on this trip, some old friend's of her parents. Guess she got tired of my whineing about fishing in Alaska!! They own a home in Craig and a nice boat, also a cabin on some island nearby. Looks like I'm getting dropped off and left to the black bears. Hope the pinks don't get to thick, like to play with some silvers on my 7 wt. Talk later......C/22 laugh
