Any suggestions on fly patterns for dolly vardens. I'm not a whiz on names so any pictures or links would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

Chubby,
Try a large olive or white woolybugger. They will imitate sculpins and smolts. I've also had good luck on a black woolybugger with a green head and dumbbell eyes. Good Luck!

Its hard to beat egg patterns. Anything that resembles or has something on it that resembles an egg.

If you intend to fish the Skagit system for dollies please release them ,some locals have been making quite an effort in the last few years to build up these survivors, you can catch the same fish many times, large fish at that and they don't eat particularly well, however they are an excellant trophy C/R fish
thanks

By this time of the year the salmon eggs and the rotting flesh of spawned-out salmon are pretty well gone and, while steelhead flies will still pick up the odd dolly, salmon (or steelhead) parr and smolt patterns will usually do better. I use a big (3- or 4-inch long) white rabbit-strip string leech pattern in dirty water and a more realistic baitfish pattern under clearer conditions. A Thunder Creek pattern with a red squirrel wing has worked pretty well. If you need more information, e-mail me.

Black, white or olive wooly-buggers or rubber leg spiders work really well. Have for me anyway. cool

Silverback, I agree totally with you on the C & R. I'm slowly getting into fly fishing and this time of year these fish are becomming agressive with the lack of dead fish and eggs to eat. This is a good time to work on my presentation and possibly hook up with a sleely. Thanks for all the input from every one.
