Hi: You should buy an achor line which you can loop splice in order to install a metal thimble to reduce the wear on the rope where it attaches to the anchor. If you can splice hollow braid then the best line would be Sampson 1/4"gold braid anchor rope. If you can only splice three strand then a 1/4" dacron laid rope would be best
If you are installing a thimble in hollow braid form your loop spice large enough to fit oner the thimble then stick the rope with the thimble in place into boiling water .Shrinkage will tighten up, the splice to make a strong connection.

Coot's right about the rope wearing at the tie to the anchor. I would go with at least 3/8" or 1/2" line. It is much easier on the hands.

I use 9/16 inch high quality line on the drift boat. Much easier on the hands. For my sled, on rope that I anticpate using in faster, deeper water, I use 3/8 inch line to reduce drag.

Do yourself a favor and get at lest 5/8 or 3/4. Easier on the hands, and don't waste time on a thimble for a drift boat anchor, just not needed.

The standard sizes are 3/8 1/2 & 5/8.I would use the 1/2" It's strong not much drag and is easier to pull in then the 3/8,the 5/8 has to much drag.
Good luck,

P.S. SteelieMatt, where were ya sunday,my plans changed. It was one hell of a nice day.We hooked
11 landed 5.The hook to land ratio sucked but still was a blast. Some nice fresh fish moving in.

I prefer 7/16" Sampson a little harder to find but it fits the rope pulleys and jam cleat the best. The best place to buy it is Englund,s in Astoria ,about 5 yrs ago I was at a boat show and found a coumpy called Topknot they supply all kinds of rope any color and best of all they will stitch a thimble on one end then all you need is a shackle to secure your anchor ,Works great They`re phone # is 1-800 topknot
