Just got the new video from STS on float fishing. I wish I'd had it when I was getting started with floats not so long ago. Great tips and some good action from a beautifull little stream. Watching Amato try to run down a steep rock face to land a hot fish is always entertaining. It was also interesting to see some of the wacky Canadian-style setups they use north of the border. For sure worth checking out.

Bruce

disclaimer - I am a complete shill for STS and could be entertained watching paint dry if there were hot steelhead fighting in the background.

Hey Where did you get the video?

Or better yet when you are done with yours, how do I get a peek at it?

Thanks,
Sky-Guy

It's the same deal they had with the drift fishing video awhile back. They're selling them via an 800 number in the most recent issue of the magazine untill they get them out to tackle shops, grocery stores, porn rental places, etc.

I think they're also available via the STS website but I haven't checked on that....

My copy is already on loan to another steelhead sicko.

I gotta say.........I hope it is better than the driftfishing video! That was really geared towrd the extreme novice fisherman! Is this one for people that have caught alot of fish under a float or more towards the beginner?

Here's the link to STS website:
http://www.amatobooks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?

I gotta say.....I got $100 that says Nick & Bill will take their "extreme novice" techniques down to the river and wax your a$$.

Fishing is not complicated.

Eaaaaaasy Dave......no disrespect to those two--they have proven their worth many times over. All I am saying was that their video was very "instructional" that is, geared toward the novice fisherman. Have you seen it? I'll let you use my copy and you tell me if you learn any "secrets" from it. I'll even meet you half way....say Progress? laugh

Sorry, I guess I had too much coffee this morning eek

Yes, I have seen the video. It features basic techniques.

However, I've also fished with Nick & Bill for over 10 years. The techniques shown on the video are what they really do on stream. They've waxed my a$$ more than once (or twice).

The part you can't convey with a video is how quickly they can cover water or the fact they can detect a steelhead mouthing the bait while telling a joke at the same time.

The float fishing video is a good one, too wink

Hmmmmm Basic Float Methods 101:

1. Gooose cast there!

2. Wait for the take down Gooose!

3. Look for the inside seam Gooose!

4. Hey Gooose you can set hook now!

Must words to memorize or learn for any float fishing beginner: "Hey where'd my float gooooo?!?"

After a couple trips with some experts there isn't much else to learn. Don't think any video could have taught me what they did...but thats just my opinion. Thanks FJ, Mikey and Craven!

Its real hard to get away from drift fishing when I'm catching fish in the faster water. Saw a different way to fish a float last week that looks fairly simple by attaching a Thill float with a rubber band. The floats have an advantage in the tail outs and slower water. Probably doesn't hurt to experiment especially when fishing new water.

Just so you guys know, Herzog isn't in this video. They shot it with Canadian guide Matt Giguet and I believe the other guy was Rob Crandle, from the magazine.

They do get into some new stuff, especially Giguet, about some goofy float riggings that probably aren't anything new to Coot or our other friends from the north. Got some great footage of Matt turning his head for a second and the float goes down. Whoa, your float is down! Good to see even the "pros" get surprised.

The water they're fishing will make you drool too. Beautifull little river with some hot fish.

B.
