Heading to Sekiu the weekend after Labor Day for some Coho fishin'. Went the same weekend last year and it reminded me of the old days when you couldn't keep the fish away (was up there last year when one of the silver records was set....and saw the hog sitting in Olson's freezer....WOW). Just killed 'em using dad's old standby of a cutplug herring behind 3 or 4 oz of weight. Has anyone been up there recently? Planning on going soon? I'm wondering in particular about the (new) restrictions on the native coho and the effect on the catch, since I seem to remember last year that our catch was predominantly wild.

Thanks for any info!!!

I'll be at Van Ripers on 8/26-27. Should be some good coho action since the weekend reports from wdfw are picking up a bit. I like to use my trout rods with 1-2 oz. weight and a coho fly, should be fun.

Husky 87:
The fish are plentiful but still on the small side. We kept two days limits of 5-7 lbs'rs this weekend.
One day we caught more natives than hatcheries and the other day was the opposite.
We also caught 5 Kings between 10-20 and more that were smaller.
Both days we caught 30 or so Silvers to get our 4 keeper hatch fish. I'm not complaining though, it was a riot. Bring your gps and a very seaworthy boat....fog and 6 foot rollers with plenty of chop (25mph winds on Sat).
I'll give you more "scoop" if you tell me how to change my password on this board!

UM,

I was at that game last year with a good buddy who is a UM alum. He took a pretty good beating from us. Needless to say, he is ready to get even. Should be a great game. If you ever boat over, look for a Willie Predator with Husky stripes down the side and say hi (obviously, not the um game). Thats how we typically commute to the games.

Thanks for help with the password...I was tired last night!
Most of the regular stuff worked. Green Hot Spots with a hoochie and a piece of herring, Coho Killer in Cop Car or glow green Coyote Spoons....
I don't think it really mattered. Straight herring didn't work as well as tackle though.
Fast troll seemed better than slow (around 3mph). Roll with the tide or perpendicular to it.
We found all fish in deeper water (but didn't try the bay).
Hard not to catch fish in Seiku when they are in!

I understand there are some places to fish from shore at Sekiu. I am thinking about going out there this weekend, but I do not have a boat. Any suggestions.

I wouldn't think shore fishing would be productive yet. You can rent boats from Curleys,Van Rippersor Olsens.
Oh and most of our fish were caught at between 30 and 40 so downriggers aren't neccessary.

We are going on the 30th & staying 'til Monday. Gonna be our Third Annual Family Fish Off.
I heard that there is bank access that produces at Clallam Bay. Just Call Olsens Resort for that info. They will be vary helpful. Hope we run into some of you all out there.

Fished Sekiu on Sunday with My 7 year old and Karry from rainshadow and we had to quit fishing 3 rods because we were hooking so many triples. The fishing was absolutely insane, my son got tired of reeling in silvers and we got tired of netting fish so we stuck with the tuna tactics and we never pulled fish from the water that we wanted to keep. it was about 35 % hatchery to 65 % nates. And please follow the barbless hook rule there is no need for barbs with so many fish in the water. Just fish a few ounces of lead and a cut plug herring from the surface to 30 feet and you will whoop em all day. Good time for some fly rod or snoopy rod action. We used about 100 herring in 3 hours.
Peace Superfly laugh laugh

How far out are you guys going? I fished there last year and limited in a couple hours but didn't have the red hot action like everyone talks about. I did fish pretty close in though, not knowing the area and all. The fish that I did pick up were rather small compared to the numerous 10-20 lb. fish I saw being weighed.

I'm just wondering if I need to go out further.

Thanks for the help.

Anyone heading out have room on their boat for Sunday or Monday? I could sure use some action to get the smell of skunk off. I am willing to help with gas/food etc. Send me an e-mail.

The Big fish are not here yet so no matter where you go they are all about the same size.
We fished in close to skiff point and the bouy out there. some good shelves were bait stacks up.

Superfly - I have the entire weeked to go fishing (wife and son are out of town), I was thinking of going to Sekiu and fishing off the jetty. I don't have a boat. Any suggestions for fishing from shore at Sekiu, or any suggestions where else I should go fishing this weekend.

Thanks for any suggestions.
