I've used cured prawns for silvers in the SW WA rivers and have had great success. Sometimes I use it in tandem with a float and jig setup.

Sandshrimp work pretty well for silvers, especially in the piss trickle of a river the Sky/Snoho is right now. I knocked the snot out of them on eggs recently, but only because I needed and edge.......no sense wasting eggs when you're out to collect eggs wink

Get yourself some strecthy thread at joes too. After hooking them up I use a few wraps around the sandshrimp/prawn/mudshrimp and hook, It keeps them on a lot longer!

I don't know if this sounds strange to you guys but the other day I was fishing the Sky with Vibrax. The fish were lock jawed. I had some sandshrimp with me that I was going to drift as a back up. Because I was to lasy to re rig I just tossed a tail on the Vibrax. Bam, I hit two fish in the next 20min and was on my way! Maybe the bite turn or maybe the shrimp behind the spinner was the ticket. What do you think? Has anyone tried bait behind spinners?

Smolt - this months STS has a story on using sandshrimp tag on a lure. I have not tried it but intended to. Sounds like you hit on something. Were were you fishing on the river? Shoot me an e-mail if you don't want everyone to know.

A few years back we were on the Green and watched a guy fishing sandshrimp under a float hook fish after fish. We had no sand shrimp so we tied on jigs that were the closest match we had and doused them in shrimp oil and did just as well as he. This has yet to work this year. Don't know why though.

Sand Shrimp was the bait of choice for the silvers on the toutle this year. Could not get them on eggs. Only a small piece of sand shrimp laugh

I've hooked a couple on sandshrimp in the past couple days. I've always had pretty good luck drift fishing with sandshrimp. I usually try and take both eggs and sandshrimp. Eggs tend to work a little better for silvers, but they like the sandshrimp too.
