Blue Cr report…no fish…but plenty of trash!
Well, it's been almost a full week since I posted my last report about Blue Creek. The car count today was a little bit better then last week. Today (December 21,) we only had 67 rigs with boat trailers at 9:30 today. The car count stayed about the same as last week end. I counted 117 cars besides the ones that had boat trailers attached (that a total of 184). That's down from last Sunday by about 59.
I stayed at the boat ramp for about 35 minutes and asked the boats guys that came in how they had done and what did they see being caught. Out of the 4 persons I talked to, none had caught a single fish. I group of guys said that they were on the water at 6:15 this morning and had only fished the area from boat ramp down to the Bear Claw area. They said that they only saw about 6 fish being caught during those 3 ˝ hours of fishing.
Next, I talked to 2 guys that walked out from Blue Creek itself who said that they had been fishing the creek before light. They reported that nothing was being caught anywhere up inside the creek and that there was a guy on every rock. They said that they didn't even see anyone with a fish!
Next, I drove back down to the next down river boat ramp called the "Mission Hole". There were about 20 rigs with boat trailers and about 12 cars in the parking lot. One bankie (this is the same older guy that owns all the property above Blue Creek and the old slid area) was fishing just below the ramp. He side he had seen nothing caught, but that there was zillion boats that had gone by that also had seen nothing caught. During the hour I was there, 2 guide boats pulled in and used the rest rooms. One boat had customers, a bait boy (man) and the guide. That meant there were 6 people fishing. They said that they had 'hooked 2" and loss one. I asked them if the one that they had caught was a winter or summer run. The "bait boy" (man) told me that it was a "nice bright winter run". I stayed around until he finally took a few pictures of the girl holding up the fish!
He lied to me! It was not a bright new "winter run" but was a "not so bright" late summer run. During the time I was there, another fishermen drove in and told us that he had just came from Blue Creek. He said that he had spent the entire night from 10:00 pm to about 7:00 am fishing at the mouth of Blue creek. He said all that was caught there were a couple of old "boot summer run" all night long. He did say that the week before he had fished all night with glow balls and did hook about 20 fish, and that most of them were bright winters. He said that almost nobody else was there fishing last night until early this morning.
So now you know what you can expect to see in the next couple of weeks. If you do decide the fight the crowds at Blue Creek, please don't leave your crap like so many do each year. Attached are just a few examples of what I am talking about. These were taken early today.
