Anybody read State of Denial? I got thru the 1st 120 pages or so on an airplane. Lot's of interesting details and recollected conversations about Rumsfeld being a machiavellian, micromananger exreme SOB that alienates just about everyone.

One interesting side note was the selection of the joint chief Meyers. The preceived frontrunner, Vern Clark, expected to have an open dialogue wiht the president and be able to state his military position without being overrun by the secretary of defence and had to get a perception from Runsfeld that they were on the same page. When Rumsfeld just scowled at him, Clark withdrew and Meyers was selected. Meyers had a reputation of being more of a pacifier and not one to stand his ground, albeit a capable commander. The book went on to note that once Meyers got the job, he was very disappointed in the lack of automony for such a high profile position. These types of embarrassing, anechdotal disfunctional stories just seem to go on and on.
