I just started fishing with sand shrimp. IM not sure if I should use a corky or not. Ive caught one so far and I used a little corky. It might not even make a big difference. And I am using just the tail. Would it be better if I used the whole shrimp

I think it is fine to use a corky along with shrimp, but I would only use it when necessary. Menaing that the water color would have to be a bit dark, so I would use a corky to make my bait more visible.

If you are going to use a whole shrip, rig it with the claws/head facing the curve of the hook. Alot of people like to rig a spin-n-glo rather than a corky when using a whole shrimp.

By all means use a corkie for drifting S.Shrimp.
By useing this you will elevate the float through the strike zone, increasing your potintial strikes. I have had good luck using whole shrimp with a double hook set up, and double corkies. That said this set up was used mostly for summer runs as they are a little more aggressive. You can definetly try whole for winter fish. As for corkies stick to smaller sizes and consider useing pinks, yellows, orange, and other colors that contrast a S Shrimp, yet still stay close to the color sceme of a S.S.. (as shrimp will have splashes of these colors in them.) Good luck and Many hook ups to you!!!

You can pretty much use any floatation with a shrimp/shrimptail.

I mainly use a "rag" or aerofly type setup, with a shrimp tail attached with the egg loop in the leader/hook.

Going with straight bait, and no floatation, is something I normally only do during very low flows and clear water. You'll snag a lot less and keep more gear if you use a corky or rag.

Good Luck!

i always use a corky with my shrimp, mainly because im too lazy too change anything and i always use corkies, but i think that without a head on the shrimp, a good medium size corky will simulate a head and attract more fish

I would recomend a size 10 Corky or Cheater to get it off the bottom and in the zone. To help keep your shrimp on, tie a small rubberband (the size that they use for dental braces or close to it) into your hook when making your leader, usually the last 4 wraps of your egg loop works great. Thread your shrimp on tail first and put tne ruuberband around it, this will give you more time in the water with each bait.
Good Luck

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. try it with a corky and without a corky. see what one works for the rivers you are fishing. from the boistfort valley uh, must be the barrel or the 140 pound runt
