...and I am guessing the media's desire to scare the [Bleeeeep!] of the public is just around the corner (I am thinking the media will title it 'The Summer of West Nile' or 'Showdown: Mosqitos'). West Nile

It was one of the best decision I've ever made. As of last week, I am seeing 20/30 in my left eye and above 20/20 in my right. Before I had the surgery, my sight was 20/1025+ in both eyes, which meant all I could really see were colors at more than a few inches without my glasses. If anyone is thinking about getting it, do your research, find a quality surgeon, and get it done. You'll save money in the long run and your quality of life with dramatically improve.

Now that there is a suspected human case of West Nile in this state, I think that will change!

And I was still worrying about cougars. Stop it your scaring me!!
Actually the spread of West Nile is directly related to the federal band on mosquito trapping, HB201. Since the band was enacted mosquito incidents have risen 15%. Incidents include not just being bitten by a mosquito but the actual sighting of a misquito or it's larva or hearing that high pitched buzzing of it's wings. Face it people...the mosquito's are becoming bolder and less fearful of humans. They must be stopped. Obviously legislation is necessary. In the mean time there are things you can do to protect yourself and loved ones. First, by all means stay indoors. Do not go fishing. Especially tomorrow. Then wrap yourselves in duct tape with the sticky side out. We can get through this.

Hey Dude....I'll go with you! The mosquitoes are so thick around here...the county said to check the trees around you if you are lucky to have them, for holes in the trunk and branches that will hold water and fill the holes with sand. That sounds like a good neighborhood service project for scouts....or for a small fee to earn some money
pmartin: Do you just rub the skin so soft straight from the bottle.?

Posh ll, Yep! I first learned the s-s-s trick when I was stationed in Ga. They have sand gnats (flying pitbulls) down there that will chew your head off! The mosquitoes where the least of the problems. Threw on some s-s-s and not a bug to be found They actually have some s-s-s that is scent free and spray on now. It's killer stuff, I never go out camping or fishing without it...

I spent a few years in central america often in high malaria areas and I have allways used avon skin so soft as well. i dont take malaria medicine and I have never contracted it so it did good for me.. the marines use it durring jungle training. it works really good.
another thing to do in general is to take alot of vitamin B (like a b50 cap). it takes about a week to build up but you will emit a scent from the vitamin that other humans cannot smell (except my girlfriend maybe, who today could tell if i used her scissors for fishing once three seasons ago) but the mosquitos hate it.

I like the idea of west nile virus and mosquitos. I want to train them to bite mergies and cormorants.

Aw, Cmon you guys! You are SOOOO missing the point!!! Don't any of you get it? The rise in mosquito incidents is a DIRECT corrolation to the federal government's mandate on trapping fruit bats. Until then, the fruit bats, the natural predator of the mosquito, kept the population in check. Can you not see this? It is we lousy humans who have invaded the natural territory of the mosquito. THIS IS ALL OUR OWN DAMN FAULT!! If the government hadn't declared body gripping traps illegal and the fruit bat a federally protected species, THIS WOULDN'T BE HAPPENING!!! Just last week here in Tumwater, a woman was out on her back deck enjoying the sunset when a roving band of mosquitos brutally and maliciously attacked her 3 year old little girl, and slowly began to drag her off into the bushes to do GOD KNOWS WHAT! Thankfully she had the peace of mind to grab the skin so soft and a couple of Bounce dryer sheets (Anyone tried that one? Works great, by the way) and was able to rescue the girl from the clutches of these loathsome predators of the night. PULL YOUR HEADS OUT PEOPLE!!! We are at fault. Bad humans, baaaad.........

The good people of the community of Skamania ahd the foresight to get USFWS to poison the skeeters out of some columbia river backwaters.. Great for them Very bad for wild chinook fry that inhabit the lakes and feed specifically on the mosquito larve
