I saw this on the news this evening...

Gray Whale Swims into the \'Ditch\'

I must say it was a little odd to see this big ole gray whale swimming through a slot I have drifted eggs and chucked spinners into in the past. fishy

Good thing that it isn't the beginning of September that poor whale would've had at least a dozen jig treble's in its back and arse after swimming by the "plaid flannel wearing tobacco puffin" snaggers at Fish Point not to mention at least being "lined" to death while in the meat hole! rolleyes eek rolleyes

Actually I'm not altogether sure the bovine fecal count in the Samish is gonna be particularly good for a whale, but it'd take a while to bring him down. wink

How's he gonna get outta there, anyway? Back out?

Come on now... that kind of information isn't on the WASL. (washington Assessment of Student Learning) Yesterday i had an 8th grader at school ask me how she was supposed to dial 457-RENT. she was completely unaware of the letters under the numbers! beathead

I joke about it here, but it is the worst thing to happen to education in a long time. We are told to teach ONLY what we Think MIGHT be on the test. Good ol' education governor Locke, is screwing up more than just fishing unfortunately. Also, State Superintendent Terry Burgeson supports this BILLION dollar sinkhole as well.... I hope they are both voted out of office and politics as well. It would do them good to have to work for a living again.

obviously this subject is a sensitive one to me! I saw an opportunity to let people know about it and took it. I know its NFR.... so sue me! laugh

Its true and it's sad! I was NEVER a scholar in school, and I am still not one! But our kids are getting screwed! Our educational system is nothing more then a joke! The bad thing about that; the joke is on our kids and they just don't know it yet!

Actually I seen a biologist say that they can only be in freshwater for a short amount of time before they start to not do so well.

From what I understand, it is the skin that suffers, not the ability to breathe. Their skin starts to suffer in fresh water and can deteriorate like skin cancer.

Hm, yeah school system. I have fought like hell the "guess and go" system of reading since my daughter started first grade. She can't hardly solve a word problem now in middle school, because she doesn't actually read the problem, she skims it. If I slow her down and make her read it word for word, she'll get it. But they have been taught that if you can't read a word, just skip it. Pitiful!!! Why is this relevant? These are our future bios and politicians!!

The problem with education right now is simple: Too many "experts" making decisions. Governor Locke is the worst. The self proclaimed "education governor" has done more damage to Washington's education system than all the others combined. He too is an "expert" on school because he went there once. I have been teaching for 13 years. I have worked with well over 1500 kids in that time and they dont want my input on what needs to be done. Far better to the Governor to appoint someone who helped his campaign to make those decisions, hell, they went to school once too! The public has a negative view of teachers "those who can do, those who cant... teach" I have even ran into that kind of stupidity here on this board. 95% of the teachers in education today bust their ass to make things better, we just dont agree with what they say better is. Test scores on an exam with MAJOR flaws (reliability, validity, bias, just to name a few..) isnt the answer.... Its way to complex an issue for one post. I can say that Terry Burgeson needs to go come the next election, along with Locke. There is going to be an increase of teacher strikes because of their backwards policies if the stay. Next chance we get we need to kill the WASL. Its cost us 1 billion dollars and done nothing positive for education..... done with rant..... FOR NOW. evil
