Well I am still having line twist problems so I am respooling. Couldn't remember what was being talked about so I went with Maxima because I could recall the name. Picked up Chameleon and now am reading not to use it. Winch cable, bad for spin casting reels?

I need opinoins on open faced spin casting reels with a medium action rod. What line to use? I need it to cast as well as not twist. Mostly river fishing.

During a search I came up with limited info except for three brands. Throw some at me.

Should I take the Chameleon back or just use it and see for myself?

If you want to use mono with a limp one like Berkely XL or their Vision flourocarbon. They both have very little memory which should help. Many folks like the new spectra lines lines for a spinning reel.

I would not use Maxima on a spinning reel, as it is stiff and has a lot of memory. If you do use Maxima go down at least one size from what you would use in other lines. i.e. if you want 10lb test buy theri 8lb.

Maxima lines tend to be way underated. In other words it breaks at a much higher strain than indicated by their stated pound test.

Good. Thats what I want. Everyones opinion about the best line.

I have been using Maxima Ultragreen (I think that's what it's called ) on both my casting and spinning reel for saltwater casting, and I like it.

I just put 30 pound PowerPro on my spinning reel however. (I needed higher test for my Spheros 4000 reel, along w/ capacity)

I think I might take the Chameleon back and get the ultragreen as well. What is $10 to test a new line I have never used. As long as it releives my line twist problem I will have no complaints. I havn't had so many line twist problems in my life but within the past few weeks it has been terrible. Berkley Trilene XT Extra Tuff.

Most excellent for spinning reels.

I've been using it for 2 seasons now for boondogging. I use 10lb, which supposedly has a 17lb breaking strength.

If I spool once in March, I might spool up again in July just for kicks and giggles. My July spool is still going strong. Used it yesterday to boondogg up 2 steelies, 1 coho, and a mid-teen king on an IMX 1141 with 8lb leaders. The leaders will always break well before the mainline does.

I use the Maxima Ultragreen on my baitcasting rods, and for all leaders.

Line twists are usually caused when your drag is set too lose and you're fighting the fish. Any time you twist that bail and you do not retrieve line, it will put a twist in your line. The only time your bail is used on a spinning reel is when the fish is actively taking out line.

I cringe when I see someone actively cranking away on a spinning reel and not making any ground on a fish. All they are doing is twisting their line.

The only other time you might see line fly off your reel is if you've spooled it backwards.

if you're going to use maxima on a spinning reel, use ultragreen or crystal ivory. it's the limpest line they make that i know of

my personal favorite is izorline. strong, cheap, and casts pretty well, but i use the heavier tests on baitcasters as it can be a bit stiff

What pound test Chameleon? I use 4lb Chameleon on a shimano 1000 with my noodle rod. stuff works good... and doesn't twist up as bad as the limp stuff... cause I mainly fish for silvers with spinners in the salt... Can't tell you about the 8-12... I only use ultragreen for heavier test on the spinning reels.

Now on Casting reels that is a totally different story... Chameleon has the best abrasion restistance of any line I've used... It is my choice for mainline on casting reels...

Maxima Chameleon is an excellant product for almost anything but mainline on a spinning reel. I fish baitcasters predominately but my river spinning reels are spooled with 30lb Power Pro. However, I also use a 3' tippet of Chameleon off the PP for river drift fishing. I'd keep the Max and use it for leaders. Great stuff, just not appropriate for spinning reels. Good luck.

chameleon has worked for leaders for me in the past but I think that UG is less visible...

have not done the scientific research to prove it... just guessing....

Aunty stay away from ande if you are accostomed to the breaking strenghth of maxima... or at least go up at least one size or you might break fish off... I've found that ande does not have the best knot strenghth of the lines I've used...

Try the spider line mono I have used this stuff for every type of fish this has been the best line that I have used.

Try Maxima perfection! Any coplymer line works good, Silver thread excalibure or P line is also an exellent choice. I LOVE Ande as a allaround line, especially if you are drift fishing. For your line twist, Like they said watch your drag, use good swivles, and watch how you are loading your reel. Try having a dealer use thier line winding machine. It will pack it right and give it 0 twist. And avoid anything that say's Stren!

I fish Maxima ultragreen 6-12 lb. test almost all the time on my spinning reels, I use the Shimano stradic 2000 for steelie's and smaller salmon on the loomis IMX 1082s and lamiglas cert. pro 9.5s. At times I will go to the braided line 10 lb. when I'm fishing bobbers & jigs and don't want to lose my home-made bobbers, it stays on top, and is easy to mend on long drift's........c/22

Aunty your right I am gettin ready to unspool my spinner due to complete line weirdness, stiff line, wont cast for crap, and tangling using maxima C. the stuff is awesome in my BC reels

Being primarily a spoon chucker I am very familiar with the line twist issue.

Switch to one of the many brands of spectra braids and you will never sufer line twist again.

If I am not using braids[spectra] then i use good old fashion stren xl.It is not the toughest when it comes to abrasion but damn it cast nice and rarely gives me too much grief on the reel.

P-Line

Not impressed with Maxima ultragreen as mainline. Feels too stiff, too much memory, too thick.

I've used P-Line extensively and regarding 20lb test and up, all I can say is, "INCREDIBLE!" The stuff is so darn hard to break off that I've decided to drop down to 15lb mainline. Great thing about this line is since it's a copolymer, it's so thin that i can load up all 300yds of 15lb on an ambassador 6501 C3 if i chose to do so. Because of it's thin diameter, you can use a heavier mainline than you normally do.

In regards to line twist, based on my experience, there is no line that is immune. Use good quality swivels. And also make sure you spool on the line right!
