Just curious and all, after the rain we are starting to get do any of you think the Sound may still produce some decent fish? The reason i am asking cause i have a little boat but no truck to tow very far (have to have my buddy take me to launch before work or beg someone with a truck). Would like to hit some high production fisheries but i am still learning (first year ever salmon fishing). The best time i had was illwaco and buoy 10, i have been reading all your posts and have been hearing all the good fishing reports but it always seems i am too late. Any advice would be appreciated, wife is getting tired of me fishing and not catching (lol).

Fish...

Silver will be hard to come by right now. Blackmouth fishing is picking up. I would definitely give the Slag Pile a try.. Fish the bottom in 90-150 feet of water.

So what type of gear would be the best fishing for the blackmouths, i have been using dodgers and coyote spoons, found out the the flashers dont work very well at all out there. I do have waders and stuff but i am still learning how to use the bait casting reel (and its not fun). Any decent rivers for a beginner to try on seeing i dont have to tow my boat for that. Also i have a 14ft livingston with a top do you think my neon would be ok if i were to put a tow hitch on it? Thanks for any help.

I don't know about towing with a Neon.. Might want to check into renting a boat locker at the Point...

For river fishing, I hear the Carbon is on fire!

The Carbon dumps into the Puyallup just downstream of Orting, right about McMillan area. Check it out on a map.

There's a couple of access points right along that road; just look for all the pickups and cars parked along the road.

You use the same gear and technique as in the Puyallup. I've usually done better after the weather cools down some and the water clears. However, it sounds like guys are nailing them down there now. The rain will bring a bunch in.

there are tons of silvers heading south right now, see schools of 50-100 fish in shallow water, been catching them everyday at migration routes, I dont see why point defiance would be slow for them considering I've never seen this many silvers before migrating and I'm fishing area 10/11. southworth/manchester area. sucker fishing at creek mouths is pretty hot now also.

Rockfish..

I am not saying that they are not there. The numbers don't support me recommending targeting Silvers. The rain will be blowing them through the Hub (PD). I feel he would be better off targeting BM...

Most of the fisheries down my way have had the bulk of the run already.. (Chambers, Nasty, Squaxin) Couple that with the tremendous amount of netting already going on in the Sound Sound... Just doesn't make sense to me to target Silvers at this tenure.. IMHO

Your area tends to hold the fish longer... Yukon Harbor, Blackjack, etc

Defiance has been over-rated for a long time. Other than nailing the near 38# on Sat. It has been a long time since I bothered going down there.

Have always had better luck in area 10 or 11 down to Redondo............
