Anyone fishing down there lately?

It looks like I'm going to be in Ilwaco Thursday evening through Sunday, so I'll probably go out and hit the jetty a couple of times...

I'm open to a fishing partner, if anyone wants to join me...fishing, as usual, can range from too tired to cast from all the fish fighting to too tired to re-rig from getting hung up all the time. I'm hoping it's been alright lately.

Thanks in advance, anyone.

Fish on...

Todd.

What type of gear do you use there? I float herring from the Whidby beaches a lot and use long rods, light line, 6' leaders, 1-1/2 wt.
Is the jetty an easy walk, or is it a lot of death defying rock scrambling and wave dodging?

The jetty is a easy walk, bobber & herring works good , I have also used a buzz bomb, and point wilson darts. the tough part is trying to land a fish, the rocks are" Extremely" slippery it really is a death defying experience , you better have a good fishing partner and a really long handled net. good luck .

Hey Todd,

I think that the bulk of the silvers and kings have already moved through there. I'm not sure how productive the fishing will be, but I bet you'll find some solitude.

An alternative may be to substitute solitude for catching some fish if you can stand it. The Naselle, Palix, and Nemah rivers are all close by and are probably fishing well. I can't give you any specifics because I haven't fished down there in years, but I bet you could figure it out pretty quickly. smile

4S,

The jetty was slow...a few bottomfish. Saw one fish, presumably a coho, follow my herring in, but to no avail.

I have a hard time fishing those rivers that you mentioned...I stopped by while driving up to Westport to check out the boat basin fishery (also slow to dead) and they were full of fish and fishermen, especially the Nemah. Low clear water, lots of big dark coho, and lots of fishermen just pummelling 'em with whatever was on top of their big ol' tacklebox. Didn't see any fish fair hooked, or any fresh ones, either.

How was the derby on Saturday?

Fish on...

Todd.

I didn't fish it Todd, I was up north across the border Fri. and Sat. Word has it that it was as dismal as last year though. It seems that only Canyon Man is catching any of them tight-lipped *******s! laugh laugh

4S,

How were the tacklebusters this fall? Is there enough water in the river? Send me an e-mail with the particulars...

I'd like to get up there this month...any plans of going back up? Maybe we could hook up and share gas costs.

Later,

Todd.
