The sun just spit out an absolute monster X17
solar flare directly at the planet. The SOHO images of the full halo cronal mass ejection directly earth bound are absolutly awesome.
This looks like a real planet buster folks. This very well could cause serious electrical disruptions. I am in utter aw seeing this. The sunspot number is ratcheting up at a steady pace. Watch globel weather around the planet within the next 24-72 hours to become very erratic. Also when this whopper hits us if clear skies are pervailing we should get one hell of an awesome light show.

Im not trying to make it sound life threatening,
people just don't understand the madnitude of
events like this. This type of flaring is very rare at this time of the current solar cycle. One of these bad boys took out one of the AT&T telestar satellites back in 98 and this ones even bigger. Severe geomagnetic storming is perdicted for the next 24-48 hours. When people can't dial up the net or make a call on the old cell they tend to get a little uptight.

This huge flare caused a very intense geomagnetic storm and according to space weather the nothern lights were seen as far south as new mexico. It can be hard to view them if you are near a city or a lit up area. If one can get somewhere where it is dark with a good view to the north during a storm like this the views should be astounding.
