How's the best way to rig a sand shrimp to use behind a diver?

I don't know about the best, but I use a 2/0 hook, run the hook through the tail from the underside right where the fins end, then around and through from the underside through the tail right before the body, then through the top of the back. rotating out throught the head between the eyes. After snugging it down just a bit, take a half hitch around the tail right at the fins.

Make sure it doesn't spin. Sometimes you want to trim the fins at the end of the tail.

I've always like to run two #2 red gami's for winters and even down to 4's or 6's during the summer. Tie your hooks about an inch and a half to two inches apart and then take the shrimp and fold the tail over a half inch and run the top hook through the fold. Then take the bottom and run it through the middle of the head. Then always break off the claw to make the bait track straighter and to make the shrimp look less agressive. This has always been a good method for me no matter how I fish shrimp, " even under a float".

For sandshrimp on divers or float, I do the same thing. I use double hooks. I usually tie the double hooks sliding, so I can adjust the distance between the hooks for the size of shrimp. The lb leader, and hook size vary to what you're going for....

Lay the double hook setup along side the shrimp. Don't impale the shrimp on the hooks. So that the top hook is mid tail, and the bottom hook bend is about even to eyes. Now use the ultra thin stretch thread, and do a few wraps around the top hook, then a few wraps around the bottom hook. Do it snug, but not to tight as to crush the shrimp. Also don't use too much, you don't want to mummify the thing. This set up will keep a shrimp natural looking for a while...At least until you get a bite. Add any corkies/spin-n-glos/prop or rag setup you want above the shrimp for the diver set-up. smile
