Ok, I have a jar of wet cured eggs that work well, however i hate using wet cured eggs as they are 2 messy and take to long to bait up and cut, compared to other recipies where they are cut into bait size pieces and boraxed. Can you take the wet cured eggs that are curently frozen, strain them, and borax them, freeze them up again and still have them be fishable, decent eggs that will work the same?

Another Q... does anyone have a good cure to use for maybe 2-4 skeins of eggs that is not a wet cure, I love bobs recipie but it takes so much time and to many ingredients for just 2 skeins, i do not want to freeze them until i have a bunch of skeins, what should i do, and does anyone have any cures that they will share?

Sorry if this is confusing. Thank you very much any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, FIsherman8989 confused help confused help

Absolutely. I cure my eggs fairly wet with Procure, and then freeze them. When I need them, I thaw them out, drain them a bit and then dust them with borax. Makes for a fairly firm egg skein which holds up well. Catches fish as well as anything, from what I can tell, and I certainly have never had anyone refuse to use them. wink

In addition to the borax, I also sprinkle the roe liberally with iodized salt to firm up the eggs and the skein. It seems to stay on the hook better.

Do you mean non-iodized?

I had similar issues in the past. Gooey eggs on your hands on a 33 degree day isn't terribly fun. I do what Silver Hilton does with one variation......I also cure them on the wet side but roll them in borax immediately, put them in a food saver vacuum bag, freeze them overnight and THEN vacuum seal them the next morning so as not to crush the eggs.

Gooey hands are a thing of the past, no prep time when you thaw them and they fish well for months. I've thawed eggs 10 months later and the eggs looked like they were cured a week ago.

Thank god for food savers! What a great invention.

I also use Siberian egg cure if that matters at all.
