I have been fishing seriously for about 25 years and have used just about every line on the market at some time or other. I fished strictly with Maxima UG sometimes going to Chameleon when I couldn't get ultra green in the test that I wanted or was fishing in more abrasive conditions. I used it religiously for years. I've also tried just about every Berkley line on the market and didn't care much for them except for then unreal strength of Fireline (Spectra fiber). As far as Suffix is concerned it is harder to get than Maxima but I have found the price to be comparable if not cheaper than Maxima. Try Bob's in Longview he had really good prices on it. It stretches less than UG and has unreal abrasive resisitance along with strength. I read in a lower thread that someone heard a rumor that it was made by Izor but it is not. Suffix is a subdivision of Mitsubishi and has made fishing line for other names for years. Suffix also has low diameters per lb. strength to make it that much more of a desireable line. It is actually a co-polymer like P-line but much better. Anyway now to Fluorocarbon, when these lines first came out they were stiff with high memory especially in the heavier line weights but man was this stuff abrasive resistant and very hard to see in the water being that it has a defraction index almost the same as water. I have also tried just about every brand of Fluorocarbon on the market and some of them are lacking considerably especially in the tensile strength and knot strength catagories. The very best that I have ever used and the only one that I will use is Airflo SightFree. It is everything fluorocarbon is supposed to be, abrasion resisitant, high tensile strength and knot strength, sinks faster than mono and is superclear. I believe it is a Japanese product. You can only get it as far as I know in 50 meter spools but they sell for less than 30 meter spools of other brands. It will out perform Berkley Vanish in a heartbeat. I was very disappointed with Vanish for the mere fact that I lost three steelhead in one day on the Nootch all due to the Vanish breaking. I know you can get the Airflo at Kitsap Sports, but remember it is fluorocarbon and costs considerably more than mono, but if you are serious about what a line like this offers it is a good buy. Now Spectra lines. I was probably one of the first to jump on the bandwagon when these lines first came out. They don't stretch, are incredibly strong and give you sensitivity like you would not believe not to mention their incredibly small diamater but they are not all the same. Berkley's Whiplash is super strong but likes to hang up on itself causing very nasty backlashes or as me and my friends call them (professional overruns) lol. Anyway Berkleys Fireline is a great improvement with it's coating but is sort of stiff until that coating wears off and then it looses some of it's abrasion resistance. It is also sort of a flat line and can bury in the spool. Spyderwire's brand of spectra fiber line is now Teflon impregnated to make it slicker but doesn't seem to be quite as strong. Then there is PowerPro. I have found it to be super strong, rounder than any other Spectra fiber line (less worries about burrying), and more abrasion resistant than all of the others. While fishing for kings this year I caught several 40 plus pound kings on 15 lb. Powerpro often one right after another without it breaking (I was not using leader). I have also straightened out 2 ought Gamakatsu hooks with it while fishing and pulled up more gear that others lost than I can count. Anyway that is my experience with lines. Anyone know where I can get P-Line in the puget sound region excluding the kitsap peninsula? Need some 8lb test. Would be nice if it is 8 dollars or less per 200yds. Love the stuff. Hmmm Suffix seems vaguely familiar.

Never tried P-line or the Airflo fluro. I normally use UG, Izor, and Power Pro on my reels, and UG and Seaguar for leaders. I really agree with you on Vanish. It's well named; use Vanish and the fish that you hook will Vanish.

Hey Oregonbankie, the only place I know you can get Suffix in Portland is Fishermans Marine and Outdoor located at 1120 N. Hayden Meadows Dr. They only carry the DNA series which is more supple than the Tritanium plus making it a better mainline. Even at this you will find that the DNA has far superior abrasion resistance to other monos and incredible strength not to mention it's really unique translucent sort of golden emerald green color. It hides very well in river water. Anyway they sell it is $7 or $8 dollars for 400 yards. I know you can get the other series offered by Suffix at Bob's in Longview but it is about 52 miles north of Portland. They have the Tritanium plus and the Superior which are stiffer but a little more abrasion resistant than the DNA I believe. But even at that DNA will not dissapoint you. I agree that Berkely Vanish is crap. Has anyone tried stren flourocarbon? I tried it once and liked it a lot. A lot stronger than Vanish!

they sell sufix at tumwater sports iirc. they charge an arm and a leg for izor and sufix though...something like 8 bucks a spool for izorline!

Howdy Chrome454. They make the Superior in a high vis yellow smoke blue, clear and low vis pink. The Tritanium Plus is made in clear, dark green, gold and orange. And believe me, when they say orange they mean it. I will try to find you a retailer tomorrow.
