Where is the best place to buy downrigger cable? Looking for the 500' spools.

Thanks
Kris

Sportco has an abundant supply of DR cable.

Sportco all the way, great selection and prices. Put 400' or more on each 'rigger, that way when you fray or otherwise screw up the working end you will have plenty left to still be able to get down 200'. Learned that lesson the hard way rolleyes

Bought some at Sportco last summer. Never thought the 1000# cable would break before the plastic downrigger boom; we have the cannon mini troll cause my dad wanted the $60 a piece vs. the $120 a piece. rolleyes Wish we got the other cause they can handle a bigger ball, are more durrable, and hold more cable... beathead

#1000? sure thats not #100, I've always used #135, sounds like winch cable your using!
As for that mini-troll, its made for lake fishing down to about 50 feet, wouldn't waste the money on 1 for saltwater fishing, only made for a #4 ball.

I looked into it and the origonal cable is #100 pounds while the new one is #150. I added and extra zero by mistake. beathead And I told my dad that the riggers where made for lakes. But they where cheaper and we would of had to either weld or screw in metal plates into our 14' aluminum boats's sides to make a mount for a larger downrigger. The mini-troll has clamps instead of mounts. Oh and we now run a 6 pound ball with 175' of cable off the one we had to replace the cable. laugh

My wife bought me some camo colored downrigger cable at GI Joes a couple years ago. I had never seen camo cable before.I dont know if its luck or what but the downrigger with the camo cable catches about 3 fish to every 1 with the silver cable.I was going to change the silver cable to camo this year but I sold my boat with those downriggers on it.
