I fished exclusively with spinning rods for many years, and for me, I like being able to hold the rod in my 'power hand' and reel with the 'lesser hand', plus not having to change hands after the cast is a real advantage too. Anyone else right handed but prefer to use left handed baitcasters? Or left handed but prefer to use right handed baitcasters?

I'd agree, after starting out with a spinning reel (left hand) it felt completley wrong to use a right handed baitcast. It took me about 1 cast to change my mind and go with a lefty!

Right handed, but use left handed reels.

I agree...lefty for righties is the only way to go. I can't imagine doing it the other way.

I'm right handed but all my reel's are left. When I do reel in a right handed rod I feel like I've been riding the short bus.But all good fisherman can use either.I prefere left and whine like little Beeyouch while doing the right.
Good luck,

pretty common from what i hear in the pacific n.west - i think it has to do with all the decent
trout lakes we as kids have access to in W. WA with spinning rod in hand.

I'm a righty, most river fishing is done with left hand reels and all my salt water fishing (mooching/jigging) is done with right hand reels.

I'm a switch-hitter that way, I have both kinds of reels, I lean a little towards left hand retreive but some of the reels I like aren't available lefty. What I really prefer is to hold my rod in my downriver hand, if I can I plan my reel selection that way. It gives the best hookset I think. It definitley comes in handy to be able to use either hand when I need to.

Boy! what happens when you cross the river?? (j/k)

I'm an old way guy..left hand is for spinning reels..right is for level winds and wiping. It's an "old dog, new tricks" thing laugh

I'm a lefty in a righty world. It doesn't make any difference to me which side the handles on. I own lots of both and often use both on the same day.

I am another one who grew up using spinning reels and when I went to baitcasters had to use a lefty. I have a friend however who started with baitcasters and when he uses a spinning reel he flips the rod over so the eyes are on top and uses his right hand to reelbackwards!!! It is totally bass ackwards and looks really retarded but it works for him. I've told him that the handle is reversable on his spinning reel but he is used to doing it his way and will not switch. He says it feels weird reeling the other way!

My friends all think I'm a parapolegic for doing it but I reel with my left hand and I'm right handed. I'm a firm believer in jerking with your good hand.
