Could it be the 2nd best year evr recorded?... If so where oh where is the best place to intercept these hogs???????
"This year's total run of Columbia River spring chinook is predicted to be the second-highest on record since counting began in 1938 at Bonneville Dam. More than 497,000 wild and hatchery spring chinook are forecast to enter the Columbia River this year"

Well, son, drive down I-5 in a month, and look for boats. Few people are likely to give up their honey hole, but you can figure out where the fish are - there will be about a jillion boats.
Look up either the Kalama or Willow Grove boat ramps and start there. You'll see where everyone is fishing. A good way to scout is to head out on a saturday morning, and look for where the boats are. In the good spots, you'll see dozens of boats.
It should be a killer year, indeed.

Would anyone be willing to divulge the preferred technique for this fishery?
Thanks, and regards.

Finegrain Most will SLOW troll cut plug herring on the incoming tide and anchor up with sardine wrapped quickfish or spinners on the outgoing. With both you'll run a lead dropper of 18'-24' or so and a 4'-5' leader for the quickies and a little longer for the herring. I put a bead chain in the middle of my herring leader to help prevent line twist.
Like SH said just look for the boats. They won't be hard to find in about a month or so.

Fingerain, Flatfish in sizes M2's & T50's in chrome, plug cut herring and prawn spinners are the big 3. Good luck!

K14 kwikfish, in silver and chartreuese. Sardine wrap. 24 inch dropper, 4 foot leader. Learn about hog line anchoring, and join one of the lines. Don't anchor by yourself between the lines, or you'll find out how unfriendly people can be.
There are lots of places to fish by yourself, if you don't want to join the crowds. Find the shelf along the oregon shore somewhere, look for 15 to 25 feet of water with good current, and anchor there. Generally, however, the best spots are fairly well known, and you'll see people parked there. No problem, just join the line on the outside, and watch the action. There are fish all across the river.
In the spring, you can often anchor fish all the way through the tides, no need to troll. This will depend on the tide.

GP2,
I am out on the big pond for another 10 days or so...
I am planning on fishing the Disco Bay Derby, but may attempt to double dip this year at Sekiu too. Depends on weather...
