Could anybody give me some tips on some decent smelting spots? I am fairly new to smelting. Also, any suggestions of a good quality net to buy and any techniques on using the net. I have been once before, that I can remember, but I was all of 4 yrs old. Feel free to email also at rwgav8@hotmail.com .

Thanks in advance

Rich

Give Bob's Sporting Goods in Longview a call...360-425-0930. They sell nets there, and can probably give you some pointers and also some good places to get smelt. Sportco in Fife also carries smelt nets.
Good luck,
Mark.

just go down to Kelso and look for people dipping. When the run is in just about any spot will yield smelt.

There's a city/county park just above Kelso where there's close parking and close dipping.

Might go there and take a look.

For herring, one looks for the birds. For smelt, one looks for the cars!

Just don't make the mistake of finding a Park n' Ride lot by mistake.

I was at kelso sat and sun got our limits both days. It looked like it was the pilot run. Should be more in soon. Bob's is the place to go to get a net. $30.00 A 5 gal bucket 3/4 full is pretty close to 20#. You can fish anywhere you can get to the river, when they are running they are every where.
