that is a tough one to answer, halibut is usally closed in AUG. (depending on quotas) but u can get Canadian fish lic. and fish thier side of swiftsure. water is nicer in aug than say may.

Problem in the deep water is that alot of the fish die of the bends when brought up so you could get a limit of small ones. If I was after rock fish I would fish south of Tatoosh.

Hope I'm not jumping the gun, but keep in mind that the coastal bottomfishing oppurtunity may be a little different this year than in recent years. I say this in regards to what the WDFW has to say about Lingcod and Canary rockfish guidlines and stocks. And of course the whole yelloweye thing. Since rule proposals are in the process this month, we should see the exact bottomfish rules before the May 11 Halibut opener.

I would not go out to swiftsure for anything but Halibut and I would not go for one fish as they tend to be Chickens and the run is too long and not worth the gas. There are places closer in and on the coast of Vancouver Island that you can catch bigger butts and more of them and other species.
