Dave,
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the information I accumulated at the float fishing seminar, at Three Rivers Marine a short time ago.

I have been drift fishing for steelhead for 42 years now, and am very successful at it. When I first started to see the float fishing craze start to develope, I thought I would never want to resort to those tactics, as I catch a lot of fish with the techniques I use now, so why try anything else. Well, I want you to know, that I have applied what I had learned at the seminar, to good use this past week.

One day, I vowed to just use floats for the day, and was I in for an eye opener.

I was able to fish spots that I would normally pass up, because I had lost too much gear in those before. I was just amazed when the float disappeared so violently, and was fast into a huge brite native. That scenario went on all day, and continued into the next.

I still wanted to use my drift gear, in certain areas, and it was a pain in the, you know what, to change back and forth.

I have been using my regualr drift gear, under the float, with some tiny modifications, and it works as good, and of course better in the real grabby spots.

Yup, I sure have to let ya know, that you have created another convert, as I can't argue against the kind of succes in the first two days that I dedicated to fishing under a float. 17 great natives, and one was 21.69 lbs, according to the calculator on Bobs site.

Darn you, now I have to carry two rods, so I don't have to be changing to different setups. Oh well, guess I'll just have to live with it. laugh

Once again, thanks Dave,
Catarafter

Hey Dave!

MUCHO Thanks for that great education on float fishing...I think everyone in the room learned something, and a few of us learned 10X over what we knew at the start of the evening.

Went out and bought that new rod today..wound up with a Herzog (Lami), and the Pfleuger Trion. Would have got the new Pfleuger President, but it only comes in the RH model right now. Its one sweet reel, but I am jazzed all the same about the Trion.

Now, if we can just find some fish out in Forks this weekend...:-)

Mike

p.s. Was real sorry to hear about your pooch...I'm sure he's telling all his new buddies up there about how great it was while he was here. BTW, don't worry...... he'll be waiting for you at the pearly gates when you get there.

Dave,
Sorry for the spelling of your last name. I once knew a Dr. Vetter back in MN, and just automatically spelled it wrong. frown

Dave - Read an article in the Feb 2004 issue of Sport Fishing written by Doug Olander. Just curious how the trip was? How was the fishing?

Been fishing a few times in teh Coiba Island region. A fantastic fishery with tons of diversity. The Popper fishing is nothing short of fantastic. Going back down in March can't wait.
