I am planning a short trip up to the upper Quinalt in a week or so. Does anyone know if I can use bait on that river this time of year?

Thanks,

Dave

Not sure what the regs are but why would you want to use bait with all the nates present. Why take a chance on having one of these awesome fish swallow the bait and die? I very seldom use bait even in the peak of the hatchery runs as I don't think you need it.

David,
You're a big boy, pick up the regs and read hombre'! Bait fishing is a no go my friend. Pinch your barbs down too. If we're lucky we'll get an extended season up there this year again.
Let us know how you did. Hope you land a hawg.

Does anyone know about the current color of the upper Quinault ? Last time I saw it the lower river and lake were pretty muddy. A local said something about a glacier collapse and lots of mud. Is it fishable?

Any of you guys ever hike up the trail that takes off from the campground? I used to take my horses up there every summer until the trail got too bad and it was easier to hike. About 7 miles upriver there are some great campsites and good drifts. If i say anymore specifics I might get lynched. cool

Real fishermen don't use bait. You don't need it and the effects on the fish are terrible, hooked deep, high mortality. Come on now.

goinfishin, I agree with you. Hike in a few miles and catch fish. The good thing is that the slobs won't walk more than 1/4 mile.

Better check the regs before fishing above the upper bridge. Not sure if it's closed yet but I got busted one year about now and only got off because the notice had been torn off the bulletin board.
