I'm trying to plan a trip to chase some salmon and was wondering which place to go if I can arrange it. Neah Bay seems to have some good numbers of fish, but it is a long drive. Westport is a lot closer, but I've never been there and the bar makes me a little nervous. It sounds like the fish aren't in quite yet. Where would you go? Also, would next week be better? The tides seem pretty mild this weekend, and the ocean forecast looks a little calmer.

My buddy just got back from W. Port yesterday. He said that they caught plenty of rockfish and some lings. He is a very good fisherman and they only caught a few salmon and those were mostly small silvers. I'd wait for Westport for a few more weeks. Sounds liek Neah Bay is where I'd go judging by the reports on this board...IMHO

I think Westport's peak is a few weeks away, so if you can delay your trip just a bit (assuming you are getting in enough fish this year so far) you might do a bit better.
Hard to go wrong at either spot.

For TONS of coho we hit Neah around August 24th, or so.

Just got back from Westport. The charters brought in some nice fish, derby for the day was at 23 15 last I saw for salmon, 11 for bottomfish. I thought there was a lot of nice fish but some guy mumbled it was a crummy day, just one small fish in 8 hours. So maybe a little slow for the charters but who knows for you. Good luck!!

If I had a few days, I would head to Neah Bay or LaPush, I have had some reliable reports of very good King fishing at Umatillla. And I am a Westport kind of Guy!

But instead I am heading to Canada for some dink sized Halibut and who know what kind of Salmon fishing out of Uclelet with the Oak Bay group. Oh well, I'll be fishing and having alot of fun with the GHPSA Guys!
