I stopped by "Cheapskate" today just to see what was up (no gear), and no one was there, including the fishies. Not a flop showing in the 10 minutes I watched. Anecdotal, certainly, but it's definately not comparable to the odd years, at least not yet.

Skywaker,
Thanks for checking, my records show last week of August and first week of September will be yer best bet. The good news....the first of September ya can use barbed hooks and bait, the bad news.....ya gotta release 'em.

Well, cigar, I haven't kept a pink the last 2 open seasons so that won't change much! I haven't found a bright one and I won't keep 'em just for the eggs.
I was hoping to get the kids out this year for a few pinks and I know they'd like to bring some home for the bar-b (ewww) , but maybe they'll get their first c-n-r lesson instead.

Remember that this even year fish are completely different that the odd year run. First the size of the run is much smaller. The last couple odd year cycles there have been well over a million pinks in the Snohomish system. The expected return of even year fish is expected to be less than 100,000 - more than an order of magnitude smaller.
Secondly they spawn much earlier than the odd year fish with first spawning in early September. As a result they enter the river much earlier than the odd year fish (this may account for their smaller size). Best guess than as much as 1/2 the fish may already be in the river.
Finally they don't seem to mill around in the terminal area like the odd year fish. Meaning they directly migrate through the salt and right up the river. As a result they don't concentrate in numbers in Marine area 8-2 or the lower river like the odd year fish.

I checked it out on Sunday evening. Launched out of Maple Street at ~6pm and fished through the high tide till ~8:30pm. I fished up and down within a mile or so upstream of the launch and didn't see a single fish jump, didn't hook any myself or hear of anybody else hooking anything either.
I did talk to one guy who was just out running the boat who said there were some fish around in the morning and some people hit some then.
Definitely not the hoards of fish you see during odd years.

Smalma,
Looks like yer right on. I just got off the phone with my neighbor who talked to the Mill Creek office of WDFW this afternoon. They say it appears the pink run has already peaked. I talked to guy today that said he saw a lot of jumpers on the Sky near Sultan.
Maybe WDFW will open it on the 15 of July in 2006.
