I have looked at current tables and noticed that it dosen't look like they don't coincide with the tides. I'm a beach fisher and wondered why I don't hear much about the effect of currents?? Anything to this??

Are you talking about effects of current (river flow) at the mouth of a river? Are we taLking about Columbia or Samish

I think he is talking about the currents produced by the high/low tide cycle. I too have wondered about the how and why currents move when they do. You fish the beach with bobber and herring you have lots of time to think about the important things in life.

Current is very important to beach fishermen as you need a good current to 1. Push bait fish close to the beach. 2. Create a back eddy that holds baitfish trying to get out of the main current flow. Both scenarios attract salmon. I've looked at the Puget Sound current tables and can't find them to be of much use to me as a beach fisherman. Either the current is running or it isn't. At Ft Casey Friday there was a minimal tidal exchange, minimal current flow, flat calm water, and no wind. Saturday there was still a minimal tidal exchange, but there was a decent current, fairly rough water, and a lot of wind. The wind was the variable Saturday that wasn't there Friday.
As Jerry Garcia eluded to: Beach fishermen have a lot of time to contemplate things between bites.

I didn't know about current tables. Is that in the tide books? Does it show which way the current is flowing just when I thought I know everything, I learned something new \:D

I fished Casey today with tide and current tables in hand. It didn't seem like the current was moving anywhere near as fast (or as long) as the tables indicated. Things must be alot different along the shoreline?

When it comes to fishing Puget Sound, currents are more important than tides. The tides tell you the general flow of the water, but what is really important is the current in the particular spot you are fishing. A friend that I consider one of the very best fishermen in Area 11 has just started to show me the light. It is surprising how the currents in a particular spot can seem to be going opposite of the tide sometimes. And how you should fish a particular spot is dependent on the currents, not the tide.

I think that currents have a very peculiar nature and don't have much understanding of them. A few times out at Point No Point this season while fishing the incoming tide like i always do, I have seen the currents go in the opposite direction of what you would expect them to. When a rip forms off a point things can get a little confusing sometimes, especially when you gaze at the water surface. I agree with Wolverine that currents are important in driving the baitfish. Slack tides are an enigma to me.
