Aunty-- I mentioned Loomis and Fish First-- while waiting for some software to load on my laptop, I did a google search. I apologize for not doing this first. There is a bunch of info on the web, but here is a brief summary on the G. Loomis website: http://www.gloomis.com/publish/content/g...ypresident.html

I wonder how much he contributed?
I'm guessing the max.

I should learn NOT to check back on the board when I'm trying to get something done...
I don't think anyone would voluntarily fish with Roland Martin... but he's a public figure, so I can say that.
I believe I could get a picture of the prez with Alton Jones (a friend of mine), a Texas bass pro who was located by GW for a little face time and fishing talk last year. I did have a shot of GW shopping in Bass Pro Shops in Springfield as well, but it was pretty dark...I even had the photo of his cash register receipt-- he bought a reel, some line and a few Power Worms. Now if they were pink worms, I could probably spin that he was getting ready for steelhead season...
And Aunty that cut on bass was cruel-- true, but cruel.

AS in " he just lobbed a cannon ball from behind the barn"
Keith was in my frat at WSU way before me however. He used to stop buy when he did games from Pullman. Back when he was on the sauce. Great guy. Cannot imagine college football without him or Cougar Bob. A few more weeks to go.

Aunty, The Keith Jackson I was referring to is/was a famous sports broadcaster for ABC. He called their college football broadcasts for many years and did a lot of "Wide World of Sports".

Sigh-- I'm not THE Keith Jackson if you're referring to the broadcast guy from WSU/Seattle, although I did meet him when I was 12 at KOMO. That shows you he's a LOT older than I am, but he also has a lot more money, and he probably has all his hair yet.
But I am the guy on the Islandview Charters' website and the Trey Carskadon thing, and I do some outdoor writing-- but most of my writing now is for a trade publication, fortunately in the fishing tackle industry.
Let's see-- and I graduated from Shelton High back when it was Irene S. Reed, and I think that's all my claims to fame.

I think the common theme is "Nothing better to do in Shelton, but...." It was a great place to grow up. I loved the fishing and duck-hunting and even head down that way to do some fishing now and again. The lakes in the Shelton area are about the closest you can get to decent freshwater fishing from Port Townsend. There is some really good bass fishing still. OK, so they're not too bright, but they are fun to catch.
A Shelton alum worthy of note is Gary Miltenberger who owns/operates a steelhead flyfishing lodge in interior B.C. I think it's called Steelhead Valhalla, but I'm not anywhere close to 100 percent on that. With your Google skills, Aunty, you can pick up on that quickly, I'm sure.

Shelton people are just a little wierd, AM.........it makes sense we'd grivitate towards fishing. When I moved away after HS and migrated north to Seattle and then eventually Lacey, people would hear me talk and say "Well, you can take the boy out of Shelton, but you can't take Shelton out of the boy." What do Seattle and Lacey-folk know anyway? Shelton isn't the town I moved away from any more, though. It's done a lot of growing, too. I still remember spending all summer dinking around on Mill Creek or over at Tony's house on Lake Limerick, and then anxiously awaiting the chums after Halloween. I caught my first steelhead in Mill Creek in about 1974, too. Good times.

Obviously, Shelton has changed since I was there-- Verle's sport shop was in a house with the owner living in the back room...almost kitty-corner from the A & W.
Even with all the changes, there are still some real benefits in the area. When my wife and I moved back to the coast from Spokane six-plus years ago, Shelton was high on my list of possible locations.
And Dan, the term is not "old" , it's "aged" as in fine wine and prime beef...

I have a shelton story, also involving a girl and a bar, both to remain nameless.
The drummer winds up in the hospital, I finish the set, the singer gets the girl even though he's probably gay and no one gets signed.
