Have the Yankees stooped so low that they tried to get a forfeit for the double header on Monday against the rays. We know the Red Sox are hot on there tale and the Yankees have absolutly no pitching there best pitcher is elduque. I dont think these guys are going to go far at all. Here is the actual letter that was written to the commisioner of baseball. It disgusts me the yanks would stoop so low.

Commissioner Selig,

This letter is a formal request for Major League Baseball to award the Yankees a victory by forfeit due to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' failure to show up on time for a scheduled Labor Day doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. The Devil Rays claim they could not reach New York on time due to Hurricane Frances. We do not consider that excuse sufficient.

The infamous Hurricane of 1938 that struck New York and New England killed 700 people, left 63,000 homeless and registered winds as high as 120 miles at the Empire State Building. But it didn't postpone the Yankees game or stop Lou Gehrig's playing streak. Granted, the Yankees were playing in Chicago that day, but the point remains: A hurricane wasn't enough to stop Gehrig and the Yankees then, and it isn't a sufficient excuse to postpone a Yankees game now.

A hurricane may be reason enough to take a day off for a losing team that has never finished anywhere but last place, but it is not the Yankees' way to postpone games due to climactic conditions hundreds of miles away. The way of a true champion is to play on, no matter what the weather conditions are anywhere else.

There are hurricanes, tornados, cyclones, typhoons, monsoons, floods, avalanches, tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions all over the world, but the Yankees play on. There are starving children in Ethiopia, Liberia and Sudan who would be happy to play in a hurricane, and thus are inspired by the manner in which the Yankees take the field each night despite their suffering. There are wars all over the world. Our brave troops are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Reserve units are being forced to extend their service time for month after trying month.

Derek Jeter and the Yanks play through rain, snow, sleet and hail.
And the Yankees honor their sacrifices by suiting up every night.

The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver on Sundays and holidays, but the Yankees play. USA Today does not print on weekends, but the Yankees play. There are entire weeks during which the New Yorker and Sports Illustrated don't publish, but the Yankees play.

We played the night that NBC aired the final episode of "Friends." We played the night that Mariah Carey's movie "Glitter" opened. We played the night "Cats" closed.

And the Devil Rays cannot overcome a hurricane?

We played the time Don Zimmer couldn't get through the stadium's metal detectors. We played the night David Wells drank all the beer in the concession stands. We played the night Darryl Strawberry snorted the third base line.

And the Devil Rays can't show up on time?

We played the night Alex Rodriguez's limo broke down on the Major Deegan. We played the night Jason Giambi cut the cheese on the team bus and everybody had to get out and walk the rest of the way. We played the night Ruben Rivera stole Joe Torre's hubcaps.

And the Devil Rays can't get to the airport on time?

We played the day the air conditioning didn't work right in the team hotel. We played the night Derek Jeter couldn't find his little black book. We played the day there were those really bad solar flares and we couldn't get decent cell phone coverage. We even played that one night it looked like it was going to rain really, really hard only it didn't.

And the Devil Rays don't reach the ballpark until six hours after the original scheduled start?

The facts of the case and your decision are clear. You must issue a forfeit. Baseball teams cannot willy-nilly decide on their own not to show up for scheduled games just because it is slightly inconvenient. The Yankees do not play that way and they expect no less from their opponents.

Indeed, Kevin Brown got a bad night's sleep and woke up in a very bad mood this morning, and yet the Yankees have no plans to cancel our current homestand.

Sincerely,

Randy Levine
President
New York Yankees

Sounds a little far fetched but it is the actual letter written to the commssioner of baseball. Yanks are very desperate as you can tell

If that is true there is even more reason to hate the Yankees. What a bunch of crap.

They have more money than anyone and still have to stoop this low to get a victory. Mighty chicken I think.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Yankees were in the right in this situation. I absolutely hate the Yankees but can find no blame for this circumstance.

Information I have read from numerous baseball sites have reported that the Devil Rays were in communication with the Yankees to discuss possibly delaying or rescheduling the game in question. The League caught wind of this and contacted both clubs instructing them that the game will take place when and where originally scheduled. Effectively telling both teams to be there at 1pm to play the game.

The Devil Rays were not there in time. According to the rules of the game if a team is there and ready to play and the other team is not by the time the umpire is ready to begin the game then a forfeit should be given to the team ready to play. The Yankees were following the rules of the game so to ridicule them for doing so is not appropriate.

I can't help but think it was another opportunity for Steinbrenner to rub the league's nose in poop, he seems to enjoy every opportunity he gets to do so.

To continue to hate the yankees regardless is completely appropriate and acceptable!

Best team in the history of baseball. Seattle could learn a few things from them.

If teams acted like the Yankees they would have as much money.

George would have never traded Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey, ARod or a host of other players. Plug those players stats into the M's avg the last 5 years and you have at least 3 world series teams.

Add one more thing to the list of stuff Elvis knows nothing about but likes to hear himself talk about.

If every team were like the Yankees they'd have a 750 million dollar tv contract and players would be making alot more money than they do already as a result of the increased free revenue.

If more teams were like the Yankees, there'd be fewer teams like the Twins. In actuality, if you want to look at a team other teams should be more like, its the Twins. They are competitive every year in a market that is barely able to support the team.

The Yankees may not even win the wild card this year. There's 200 million well spent, eh George?

Simple economics.

If everyone where like the Yankess payrolls would go down. There is a fixed ammount of advertising and gate revenues increased competition would spread that out even more into the local markets. The lack of competition has allowed the Yanks to spend 200 million. BTW George makes money every year the teams like the Twins do not. They where targeted for contraction beofre a good season bailed them.

Sounds like reaganomics to me.

Sooooo....let me get this straight....if every team were like the yankees and could up the bidding for free agents like Arod, then salaries would actually go down?

Please elaborate with some much needed 'expertise'.

You know why people hate the Yankees with such a passion?

...because their fans are such unabashed homers that they can't see the forest for the trees. Much like Dumbya Bouche's supporters they are able to look past the fact that they are ruining the very institution which gives them their sustanance.

Yep, yer team can win the world series every year and you can still be a total loser.

Bidding for players like Arod take place because there is not enough revenue in small markets to allow a team to retain top players.
Salaries would not go down they would stabilize as teams like Seattle that want to be profitable would not have to trade Griffeys and Arods . Revenue sharing and salary caps have a similar effect and are a more realistic way to achieve competitive parity. The Yankess or any high salary team still have to play the game just like any other team. Any fan of baseball cannot deny the history of the franchise like them or not.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

The New York Twins?

The New York Mariners?

The New York Devil Rays?

Would that work?

DanS,

I bet you did not mind when the UW out spent every Pac 10 team in the 80's and early 90's?

In the 80's their football budget and surplus was 2x that of the Cougars. I bet that never took a step off your happy dance when they won.
