Keep in mind that G.W is from Texas. A huge state with very little if any public land. Few natural resources other than some oil thats controled by a " good ol boy " network that he is a part of. A place where a secret hand shake behind closed doors can buy votes.. and big business always wins ( and helps pay for your election campaign) A place where you can effectively dodge your way out of the draft and never have to pay the price... a place so strange that there is a long history of T.V and film centered around just how strange and off kilter it is... Texas and enviroment should never be in the same sentence.
So don't be to hard on the little big ear goof, he just does not know any better... plus.. hey... thats not his job anyway.

You guys understand that these "enviornmental groups" want to eventually prohibit you from all fishing and hunting right?
Growing up in Montana and still having contact with a lot of friends there, most people over there like this legislation because it strikes a true balance. If the enviornmental groups had had there way, I guarantee you that in a few more years, they would start asking for more land and water to be protected.

Really, whats left that you want to use up ??? I for one am not opposed to leaving land as it is... it does not mean you can't use it or go there... it just means you have to leave your truck at the trailhead. Last time I checked you can buy lumber anywhere... and why should I care if people in California pay out the nose for electrical power.... Or if a couple farmers don't get the water they never should have been allocated in the first place..

"If the enviornmental groups had had there way, I guarantee you that in a few more years, they would start asking for more land and water to be protected."
Do you ever look at it the other way and think, if we give these loggers, miners, etc. this bit of land they will start asking for more land and water to use for their own personal profit to the exclusion of everyone else? That seems to be the way it has worked in the past.
If environmental groups get some land and water proteced today and move to protect more in the future, land that EVERYONE can use, rather than a few rich and well connected companies, more power to them.

But you pusedo environmentalist will be the first to cry when the cost of Forest products ,mined goods works it's way up the supply chain in the forms of increased costs. Wait you will just import more and screw up the environment of another country? And lets not talk about all the biotching you will do about the jobs lost overseas . Look in the mirror and point the finger right back at yourself. Blaming a president or political party for this is hypocrisy to the infinte.

This logical argument, Taken to its conclusion, means we should never try to protect more land because it will increase raw material costs or screw up the environment of another country. We should never protect anything because some other country doesn't. I don't buy your race to the bottom/lowest standards argument. Somethings are worth doing and you have to start somewhere. We have to start in the US where we control the laws, versus foreign countries where we don't.
Seems fair to me to blame the political party that enacts policies I disagree with. Regardless of which party is behind it, I am never going to be happy when sound environmental protections are rolled back to protect some narrow special economic interest rather than the public good as a whole.

The logical arguement says that you should look at your life and the upstream and downstram effect you have on the environment. Put the balme where it lies( betweeen your ears) and really do something about it before you point the finger at someone else that for some uneducated reason you feel is worse than you. Then sit back in you modern home built from these resources and recycle your beer cans and call yourself an environmentalist. In other words YOU ARE THE CAUSE because of the way you CHOOSE to live. If these companies did not have someone that needed their products do you think they would still go cut down trees and mine copper? Then on top of all that ignorance do not compound the problem by exporting it overseas it by buying foreign goods and pretending even more that it is all good.
There is a balance out there but it will not be found in denial, ignorance or voting out a single politician. It is a lifestyle choice in America. The solution if implemented today will crash our economy and alter the way you live beyond your comphrension. Opposing this rule change is like filling in the grand canyon one grain of sand at a time. Don't fool yourself think it through.

Jeez folks... I never knew this forum was even here... reading what posts I have so far I feel like I can finally unleash my true self... so here is a start..
Idaho is a conservitive state... It goes republican every year. At the same time, we have the most wilderness designated acres in the lower 48 states.. we also have the greatest number of free flowing river miles in the lower 48. How could that happen ??? Easy.. As a state, we understand the value of this resource. If it costs you more money to cut the tree down than you get for selling it.. why do it ??? Just so a guy can have a job ???
There are roads to just about anyplace anyone needs to go... and you can walk to anyplace else. The " land of no use B.S " is coined by fat asses who are pissed they can't ride their 4 wheelers. " My unkle Billy bob is old and stove up... we needs to build a road so he kin come wif us huntin ".... To bad... he can't play pro football either and I don't hear anybody crying about that....
Washington state is already so screwed up that it would take a miracle to turn it around. Its logged out, its fished out, it was hunted out a long time ago ( How many people over there do you know that are headed over here for hunting in the next three weeks ?? ) A lot I'll bet. I don't know of a single person who packs up and heads to Washington to go hunting. Why, because it sucks... Why does it suck ??? because its been pretty much raped.
So why do we even care about what happens to you guys over there... Simple... decisions that are made in your courts affect our fish, and the reputation and value of the Northwest as a whole.
A good example would be the fiasco that you just had concerning WSR... God did you shoot yourself in the foot with that one. Its one thing to make a mistake on occasion but why you guys do it every single time on every issue is perplexing....
Hell, lets talk about things that have been done right over there, it will take a lot less time.

Be fair B-Run: I like Idaho, graduated from school there, my parents live there and I have fun when I am lucky enough to be there. But, it is easier to have all that stuff when the population of Idaho is one sixth that of Washington and the land area of Washington is only 80% that of Idaho.
That said, we do screw some things up here.
B-Run: Heard any reports from the Grand Ronde recently? Is the Clearwater fishing well?

I'll know better on tuesday about the Ronde, the Clearwater has been O.K.. Still C&R only there so not a whole lot of people fishing it. Lots of fish moving fast up the Snake above Heller bar and around the mouth of the Imnaha.

RB,

I saw Elton do that song at the Seattle center in 1975-76. He had 6 or 7 pianos on stage great show. Just got a different version of Madman on an import this summer great album.
