The dams are federal not state. Just imagine what the statewide taxes would be for a new Eastern Washington state? Wah!

If only those two stadiums could have encircled King Co. It could have then been filled with skycrapers and hopefully it would sink under its own weight.

Nine cents a gallon hurts my wallet alot more than it hurts yours....we consistently have the highest gas prices in the state. Again....you want to ***** about high gas prices start with the low hanging fruit. OIL WAR! Then work your way up the ladder...same people that ***** about the gas tax are the ones who voted for Bush, which can be construed in no other way than a vote for higher gas prices . you get what you pay for, or in this case, what you vote for.

Don't you have a few hundred thousand signatures to gather instead of wasting your fingertips biatching on the internet? 'I won't pay nine cents extra a gallon for a gas tax but I WILL vote for a president whose policies have increased the average price of gas more than thirty percent' hypocrisy of the highest magnitude. you use the roads in Wa. State. According to Elvisian logic you oughtn't ***** about having to actually pay for it.

It's the same ol' argument that comes up when you discuss the "red" and "blue" states...the red states like to blame all their woes on the blue states, but sure don't mind cashing those billions of dollars worth of welfare checks that are mailed out to the south and the plains states every month

H20,
Show me where I have complained once about the gas tax? I would like to see a $.50 a gallon taxif you search the archives. I also believe you are contradictiong yourself. You have been pushing the doom and gloom Peak Oil myth for the better part of the year. Now you want to balme GW for the rise in gas pricies? Which one is it?

No, Rory, what I'm saying is that those who complain about taxes and such are the ones who manage to soak up a lot of the subsidies and welfare that come from them, and that if E. WA were to become the "State of Columbia", it would still be full of those who feel entitled to their welfare and subsidies, yet would no longer have the tax base to support it.
What next? Would Columbia declare war on Idaho to get their money?

Actually most conservatives (those people in the red states or Jesusland) messure domestic policy success by how many able bodied people that are liberated from relying on public assistance vs. the liberal view of domestic policy which messures it's success by ever increasing the number of people who are dependant on public assistance.
The view that everyone out in Jesusland (those 'un-enlightened' areas outside of Fremont, New York, Boston, San Fransico and L.A.) are toothless, non-contibuting and on welfare is pretty myopic.

Rory,
"Actually most conservatives (those people in the red states or Jesusland) messure domestic policy success by how many able bodied people that are liberated from relying on public assistance"
Undoubtedly true that they feel this way, but undoubtedly true that they are also lagging well behind the "blue" states in actually getting off of said assistance...the blue states put far more into the system than they get back, and the red states take far more out than they put in.
"the liberal view of domestic policy which messures it's success by ever increasing the number of people who are dependant on public assistance."
This comment, of course, just exposes you as the zealot you are, rather than any actual knowledge or numbers, as it is completely made up out of thin air.

"...the blue states put far more into the system than they get back, and the red states take far more out than they put in."
Can you substantiate that ? I would like to see where you get that info.

Red States Feed at Federal Trough, Blue States Supply the Feed Monday, September 27, 2004 The Tax Foundation has released a fascinating report showing which states benefit from federal tax and spending policies, and which states foot the bill. The report shows that of the 32 states (and the District of Columbia) that are "winners" -- receiving more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 76% are Red States that voted for George Bush in 2000. Indeed, 17 of the 20 (85%) states receiving the most federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Red States. Here are the Top 10 states that feed at the federal trough (with Red States highlighted in bold): States Receiving Most in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid: 1. D.C. ($6.17) 2. North Dakota ($2.03) 3. New Mexico ($1.89) 4. Mississippi ($1.84) 5. Alaska ($1.82) 6. West Virginia ($1.74) 7. Montana ($1.64) 8. Alabama ($1.61) 9. South Dakota ($1.59) 10. Arkansas ($1.53) In contrast, of the 16 states that are "losers" -- receiving less in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 69% are Blue States that voted for Al Gore in 2000. Indeed, 11 of the 14 (79%) of the states receiving the least federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Blue States. Here are the Top 10 states that supply feed for the federal trough (with Blue States highlighted in bold): States Receiving Least in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid: 1. New Jersey ($0.62) 2. Connecticut ($0.64) 3. New Hampshire ($0.68) 4. Nevada ($0.73) 5. Illinois ($0.77) 6. Minnesota ($0.77) 7. Colorado ($0.79) 8. Massachusetts ($0.79) 9. California ($0.81) 10. New York ($0.81) Two states -- Florida and Oregon (coincidentally, the two closest states in the 2000 Presidential election) -- received $1.00 in federal spending for each $1.00 in federal taxes paid. ************************* Here is a link to that information, and many more, with links to the tax agencies and the raw data: http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2004/09/red_states_feed.html More? How about the "moral majority" so proudly worn by the red states? The Associated Press, using data supplied by the US Census Bureau, found that the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt. The AP report stated that "the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average of 4.2 per thousand people." The 10 Southern states with some of the highest divorce rates were Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. By comparison nine states in the Northeast were among those with the lowest divorce rates: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Teen pregnancy? Oops...guess who the leaders are? That's right...the "moral majority" in the red states...again. There's lots more where that came from...need some more? Fish on... Todd

Ok, what I really don't understand is our President's latest approval ratings.
Apparently, they are way down. Way, way down. As in, people think he's not doing a good job and just sucks, kinda way down.
How do you get such approval ratings from the very same peole who VOTED for you?????
Baffles my mind.
Honestly, did *anyone* expect anything different out of our President?
(Here comes the "better than the alternative" responses!)
How many of you (besides my brother) *still* think Gregoire STOLD the Governership????

Todd,
Wow you call that a source. It does not even show the methodology. Well it least it does not come from Michael Moore.com. How does it account for people like me that live in one state and pay their taxes from another(Nevada). Which is real common and why Nevada would skew along with Fedreal taxes collected from gambling ?
"The Associated Press, using data supplied by the US Census Bureau, found that the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt."
Prove that they where republicans or Christians per your inference. Again awesome source the AP. Go check out the data source and see how they collected the data then come back and we can talk.

Again awesome source the AP. You probably didn't know this king... but the AP is the MAIN wire source for nearly ALL of the major news networks... including FOX. I know, I know... It's gotta be NewsMax, Drudge, World Net Daily etc... right?

It won't matter...
You didn't like the information, now you don't like the compiling source, and if you were to go and find the primary sources, so long as they don't support your position, you'll have a problem with them then, as well.
The fact of the matter is that the "red" states suck up more tax dollars per tax dollar contributed, they produce more divorces per marriage, and they produce more unwed teenagers per pregnancy...
And the red states are overwhelmingly members of the "no taxes" cabal, and the "moral majority"...
If "Jesusland" decided to make a paradise without the coasts, they'd be up to their ears in their illegitimate children, single parent families, and no more welfare dollars to feed their entitlements...not to mention the billions in farm subsidies, which means they wouldn't be able to feed themselves, either.
Fish on...
Todd
