Ok, since the PW seems to be the topic of the week, I'll ask yet another PW question. Who's successfully caught a steelhead on a rubber worm *other* than pink? What colors have you used? Vision had a line off worms all the way from rocket red to pure white. I tried them all and successfully landed at least 1 steelhead on every color, including the white worm. I didn't like the Vision worms (too soft), but I don't think the color made any difference. Never tried a dark colored worm, but I'd bet a contrasting black or dark brown/green worm would work. Come one, share with us the colors *other* than pink that you have caught a steelhead on!

Some of the soft palstic lure colors (other than the original nighcrawler color) that I have caught at least one steelhead include: pumkinseed, smoke, clear with various flake colors, watermelon, black, junebug, and black/chartreuse.
Tight lines Curt
PS - have never fished a pink worm

Ive caught a few on chartreuse, black, and white. I first tried the black ones after getting a slinkie bit twice in one day. The white ones have worked for me in some low-vis situations.
Tried some of the bass guys' stuff like oil, purple, dark green, some with lots of glitter, etc with no luck. I use the 3-4" Yamamoto brand.
But the pink still is the hands-down winner, at least for me.

My first "worm" steelhead was on an all black bass worm in the Nooksack...since then I've caught them on various bass worms in many colors...but I've been seduced by the pinkies as much as they seduce the fish, and haven't fished a "non-steelhead" worm for several years.
Fish on...
Todd

I Remember talking to a guy on the elwah one day fishing for summer runs, and all he fished were little 3" curly tail grub worms like salt and pepper, black, greens, etc and he swore by them! Just food for thought =)

I wondered when someone would finally bring this topic up.........as much as steelies hit black, white, purple, etc., jigs it seems it would be no different for rubber worms.

I have seen them caught on black plastic grubs in the summer. The fake plastic grubs where only about 1.5 inches in length.
I think this summer I will start the new Pacific Northwest trend, Steelhead fishing with Plastic Lizards. :p
All jokes aside if you tossed a lizard for a day or two you would come up with a fish. Steelhead are stupid, one would eventually bite it.

I couldn't possibly agree more Dave! We should have a lizard derby.. Or even just a straight up bass lure "Gathering" as to avoid any legal confusion of a "derby" Bring spinnerbaits, bass plugs, poppers anyone? We may just find a new technique?!
