How long do cured ghost shrimp last? I bought some at Gi Joes. They are in a plastic package - vacuum sealed I think. Will they be ok for a month? Can I freeze them?

I suggest putting 3 or 4 under the seat of your buddys truck. When he calls you and says he is going to kick your ass.. then you know they last that long..

well first of all u might wanna call them sand shrimp unless u wanna sound like a cracker :), but usually they are fished fresh so i don't know about curing them, im sure someone does though

Shrimpers call 'em ghost shrimp. Most of them are collected commercially in the mud rather than the sand, but the 'Mud Shrimp' name has already been taken.

I bought some cured at Monte Square in desperation when they were out of live ones, they have my vote of 'no confidence.'

There was some good info brought up on this subject in a previous post last month.

Throw them out and next time buy some raw uncooked prawns and cure them yourself,I think you'll be happier in the long run both in the cost and results.Good luck,

Gads, even the seagulls won't eat those things.

SO in the interest of self sufficiency and economy (as well as cathcing more fish) . How would I go about curing those prawns?? I have never cured anything so a little help please.

I might be a dipstick but i've had luck with a cured sand shrimp.
coat with natural or red cure
bag em up-fridge em flip em couple days
take em out coat with slam-oa powder
layer em in small tupperware
cut papertowel/ shrimp/coarse rock salt.
my grandpa never let anything go to waste.
wait till my patented "earthworm jelly"

Cure?????? Why???? Buy the prawns, 41-60 count, when they are on sale.

Put them in freezer.....night before, take out 6-10.....run under water to partial thaw, take shell off, take filet knife, cut them down the center....long ways. At this point you may add:

1. coloring
2. scent
3. both scent and coloring

12 to 20 baits should last you all day.......if ya have left overs.........re-freeze and you are good to go, next time!!!!

I just cure them in pro-glow red bait cure over night,pretty simple.Good luck,

its just so hard not to experiment with left over fishin crap.
i will say for good mesure i would take a good cured prawn anyday. but you take some cured prawns
blast them in the blender on puree
add some glycerin and scents
just ad salad and entree and your set.
