I think in the abscence of body language, and immediate feedback, sometimes people come off more abrasive than ever intended. I won't name individuals because there were alot of guilty parties in this instance.

Point #2

Trying to redirect, or refocus someone elses attitude is a frightfully easy way to ensure you'll never warm a seat in their boat. If it is absolutely nescessary it should be done as gently and as politely as possible. I really try and always do those things by private message.

There is really only one complaint about PP which I feel has merit; that old members often cannabilze newbies. Don't be eating the new guys. Hard enough to get the lurkers to post. Don't need to drive off the next 15 year old Herzog, or 12 year old Clancy, because they didn't understand some point of etiquette.

If we make the lurkers so uncomfy they don't post; then I'll be potentially missing out on some great new techniques, or chatting with someone who might offer me a seat for albies, or just a chance to learn whatever they have to offer. And since this really comes down to meeting MY needs, I think people should do what I say, dammit

V-Hawk - Your points are well taken but I don't we shouldn't walk on egg shells hoping someone will like us enough to invite us out with them. That assumes we would even want to fish with them in the first place. Some of us are darned content with the high quality of people we fish with now. Meeting new ones that are friendly and helpful is a bonus.

You are absolutely right that we don't want to turn away the next generation because they ran into some yahoos right off the bat. All I am advocating is some respect for those that have less time to fish because of other obligations. They are part of this community also.

When did politeness morph into "walking on eggshells"? My current rule of thumb is I don't write anything about a particular person that I wouldn't be able to say to their face.

And I'm not talking about you in particular, but the tone alot of folks write in...well just imagine if those same people talked to strangers in a roadside tavern like that, I'd be seeing alot more unconscious patients in by ambulance.

Being nice, saying 'please', 'thank you', and 'I'm sorry', they won't make anyones cajones rot off. One of America's finest gentlemen also carried bigger ones than anyone here. John Wayne never would be confused with an obnoxious, rude, mouth breather.

I agree. I was raised to be polite. That why I get annoyed at the rudeness and disrespect.

I also worked the mean streets and the clinical setting at the zoo and on the hill (pill hill). So I am well aware of the affects of impoliteness and the associated trauma it can entail. This is a fishing board and questions about fishing should be in line with the spirit of the fishing board.

Thanks to the people who actually backed me.. much appreciated! Rowe, I really have nothin to say.. lol.. that was just ridiculous on your part in my eyes.. I wasn't disrespecting anyone at all.. And I did give him VALUABLE information that will lead him to much better success than a simple report..

Also for the record, the only person I believe I've ever really suggested to find out for themselves is Milton Jo... I usually just leave the report requests alone, but I decided to try and give him that valuable little piece of information, which like I, and so many others here have said, far more valuable than the report itself would be.

Anyways.. I had to chime in a little bit, but I'm done... I think any and all comments that could be thought of, negative and positive have been made.. lol..
