When fishing scud patterns for trout, how should you fish them so they replicate the real thing? Thanks!

I've always understood to let the pattern sink so it's down around the weed beds, and then short strips of 4 - 8". I haven't done it for years, but I think that's what worked.

drift with current, no drag. Weighted patterns work well in faster water. My sons use strike indicators and they do better than I do. Rocky Ford trout will pick up a scud and spit it out without you knowing it when not using a strike indicator.

Try the hand twist retrieve. It really gives the start, stop, jerky motion of the natural.

don,
I may have to give that a try. I've always tried for the dead drift approach; you may improve my success.
