Ouch!!! Despite beautiful weather w/low winds, my partner and I received our first collective skunking EVER! We are not God's gift to the fly fishing world but we've been known to catch an occasional fish anywhere we go, usually several apiece...but not today. Joel has fished this lake several times and told me "this lake is either feast or famine". Well, I left Lenore one hungry fella! Leeches, buggers, chironimids, all were used to no avail. We fished the north end where there was a "circle" of about 12 boats (pontoons, tubes, john boats) centered on and tucked up against the bank. This circle was approximately 100 feet across and inside this circle was a smaller circle of a dozen strike indicators! EVERY FISH I witnessed caught, about 30-35, was by half these fishermen who had "circle membership" (the other half went fishless...must not have paid their dues!). Damnedest thing I've ever seen! We fished the outer perimeter of this circle for 2 hours with chironimids without success. To make matters worse, we fished Coffeepot today and only caught 4, but avoided the skunk. I guess there are some weekends you should just stay home....now the trick will be to figure out which weekends!
