Or should I say, Classic Snoopy Rod?

A friend of mine happened to be over at my house over a year ago when a CD arrived from Kev with the Dec. 2005 Snoopy Rod Classic pictures...he checked them out with me and thought it looked pretty cool...'cuz it is.

Anyway, I haven't seen the guy in a year, but I see him last weekend, and he's got a fishing rod for me...but not just any rod, but a *real* Snoopy Rod.

Here it is:

This is the real deal, so to speak...made by Zebco. Does Zebco even make kiddie rods any more?

Strictly speaking, it's not just a Snoopy Rod...apparently Woodstock was getting in on the business as well!

Here's Snoopy, though, on the reel...

Here's a side view of the reel...

And if all that isn't cool enough...check the date...1958! Like I said, this is the real deal!

Besides being an actual bona fide Snoopy Rod, and being older than *almost* all of the SRC participants, it's got the requisite "one guide and the tip" that would make it a legal rod to use in the SRC...I can't wait to use it next year!

Fish on...

Todd

Wow sweet deal. Nice guy to do that for ya!

Lets see how that '58 mono holds up on a brat before you swap it out!

While on the topic. Pat, I still have your TH Custom Snoopy Rod here in my office, and at this point I'll just probably bring it over with me next December versus shipping it....unless you want it for summer runs....

That's cool Toddly ;\) I'm guessing that 1958 date is the year that snoopy and the "Peanuts" cartoon was created.. Not necessarily the year the rod was made? I dunno.. I'm too lazy to google that sheeyat \:\)

Awesome rod man, it may be hard to land a fish without a drag though.

I bought a similar original Snoopy Rod off of ebay for my first SRC. POS died by 9:00 am that morning. You'd think that POS was from the 50's. Oh wait, it was. Felt like it, too.

That's neat and all, but good luck fishing with it.

Cool rod, though. You should at least TRY to fish with it during the SRC. Maybe this rod will be better.....

I'll give it a shot...the last couple of years my rod selection has been comprised of two new rods each year, and one works well, while the other doesn't work at all.

Of course, you don't know that one doesn't work until you get out there...then you give those P'sOS to other guys who didn't have the foresight to buy their own rods (ahem..T-Bird...cough-cough). If it doesn't work, then it'll just be par for the course...assuming the other one does work.

This one does have a drag...a star drag. The thread is coming off of the guides, and the guides are all rusty, so there's a little work to be done there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the rod has lead based paint on it...not one bit. I'll use it to stir my drinks with, especially the hot stuff like coffee.

The guy who gave it to me got it from his nephew, who is my age, and his nephew got it from his Dad when he was a kid, so according to them the 1958 year is accurate. Pretty cool of them to give it up.

I'll change the line on it, as it is probably original.

The only Snoopy Rods I could find on eBay this morning are a lot newer than this one...the one piece rod/reel design, with the full loop on the rod handle...they look like most of the ones you can buy at any store right now. They were going for $30.

Fish on...

Todd

Todd,

1958 is the Copyright date for the Snoopy series and Charles Schultz, but that rod could easily be from the early 60's.

I think Big Jim has the right idea...hang on to that critter and see what it's value might be. As a "First Edition" Snoopy Rod it could be quite valuable (enough for a new Lami or better).

And I would leave that original guide thread as-is until you get it appraised. Any mod's will likely reduce the value.

Serious..if it performs no better than the newer models don't abuse it with bashing it around for steelhead.

Mike

That's down right cool...

You just advanced one step closer to a legend in fishing Todd. Your final quest will be a 20+ on woodstock...

20+ on Woodstock? Damn...I bet I could hook one, but I think landing it might be an entirely different situation!

The occasional big nate is caught in December on the Bogie...I'd love to be there when someone hookes it up on the Snoopy Rod during the Classic...I think I'd just toss the rod in and let the fish tire by dragging it around, then tow it in...the rods float, after all!

I don't think my new old Snoopy Rod will float...it weighs a ton.

Fish on...

Todd

I forgot to mention though, it looks like it would only be good for at best second place. I think those Lavro guys may take the title.
