With the new regs requiring single barbless hook in Area 9, what size/type of hook works best when tossing buzzbombs off the beach?

What size BBs?

Unless you're throwing huge BBs,I'd go with 1/0 or 2/0 Gamakatsu Siwashes.

Matzuo Sickle Siwash size 2/0 has worked good for me so far. They're sharp, strong, and keep the fish on. You can order them in bulk from Cabelas.

2 gami octopus salmon hooks tied about an inch apart. Use a bead betweenthe b.b. and the hooks so it rides right.-T

The manufacturer make and sells a single siwash style hook specifically designed for the Buzz Bomb and Zzinger. It has an offset eye that seats very well with the lures. http://www.buzzbombzzinger.com/accessories.html

those hooks look like run of the mill eagle claws -- didn't they used to sell a single hook with the eye 90* to the shank?

I've always used a gami sized appropriately for the buzz bomb. Nothing new about this reg btw. It has been this way for a long time in PS.

Actually, this is the first year that single barbless hooks have been required in PS, where there is selective fishery. Last year and in years past, barbless trebles have been legal.

On the WA coast, it has been single barbless hooks required, for some time.

Hankster - I've been looking for these hooks and checked captain hooks per your post but only find sickle o'shaughnessy and sickle octopus. Am I missing something or are you using one of these?

most of the people i see with buzz bombs dont know to even pinch the barbs...i usually bring four herring with me at lunch to fish for Coho..but before the fish are really there it is not worth four herring going to waste...so i throw a buzz bomb or a spoon..unfourntly the spoons dont go very far unless you have current...i have always used a 2/0 but use Owners..i think they hook more fish than the trebles...seams most people with trebles hook the fish just on the edge of the jawline and seam to loose more fish...i think a nomal hook is aways better...c
