For those of you interested in catching humpies in the Snohomish heres the Real Deal....

1/8th oz. WHITE Crappie Jig fished near the bottom with a Tantelizing Twitch slow and on light tackle ....Does it work ?

Heres our fish from this morning...kinda slow,we only landed 20...our 7th time out and those 8 put the total for the season[all 10 days at 140 fish caught 37 kept for friends, smoker and eggs and 103 released not including 5-6 dozen LDR [long distance released] or plain old lost...it's easy, it's fun, and on light tackle it's a kick in the azz...

with a Tantelizing Twitch slow and on light tackle

what is a tantelizing twitch and what do you mean by slow and light on tackle?

Do use pencil lead or just fish it without weight?

Those are sea run cutthroat killers in hood canal too. Good for you, sounds like you are taking advantage of your local fishery and have it dialed in too.-TBJ

With lite tackle you can cast an 1/8th oz ...so main line right to the jig ...no weight, no swivel ...nothing ...the jigging motion varies depending on the fish...at times just wiggling the tip of the pole at others a full on wrist break will entice a take ...experiment ...just remember those fish on the surface rollin' are NOT the biters the ones that bite are near the bottom...Today ...3 kids on the bank buzz b's n pink spoons...nothin'...give em 3 jigs ...all 3 kids caught a fish...3 more reformed Pinkos...

Thanks for the jig pics. You've definitely got it figured out. Going to have to leave work early tomorrow and give it a shot. Is it all private access on that side of the river (Craven Farm), or is there some public access? Good job on the kids, great seeing little ones hooking into fish.

Fiske...we launch at Douglas bar which is private access... the only reason i mention Craven farms is, they have an online map so i tell people to use that as a referance ...you can launch a car topper but no public boat launch ...if you have a motor you can get there from the launch in Snohomish [we have a db]

rognsue. Thanks! I'll give Heirman park a try. I have a aluminum boat that'll I can launch at Snohomish with. Will try it next weekend my son can be with me. Never launched there before, so it'll be fun to check out some new waters from the boat. Would go out on it sooner, but I have a deal with my wife that I never go onto the water alone in the boat. Probably a good thing for safety reasons, since I love the water but can't swim....go figure......

The method has proven effective over the last 4 yrs...the record stands at 41 fish in 3 hrs n 45 min. but i think that will be broken this year...Addicteds group can't sore lip them all...

When this wad of fish hits the rivers, your line will be pulling non-stop. Maybe I'll come hit the Snoho this week for a change of pace. Your record will fall soon I'm sure.

I've landed a handful of 8lb + pinks, maybe 2 or 3, nothing over 10 though...Probably a fish that spent an extra year or two out at sea....

All the fish I have seen have been small, nothing over 7lbs. I usually just twitch Pink Jigs or 50/50 Dick nites do the trick. The number are always stupid, in a week or two I think there will be a big rush. I need some Silvers!!!

As the shelves at Wal Mart go bare......pretty cool of you to post a picture of what USED to be your Super Secret Humpy Jig. I agree, hoppin' 1/8 jigs is probably the most deadly technique for Snoho pinks.

Although it looks like the first four in your picture are over 6 lbs., I'd say the fish are average in terms of size this year. No 15 lb. Humpzillas (2001 was a very unique year for size) and reaching double digits will be difficult; they are all two year fish.

We had a pretty good sample size Saturday night.....not one of the 27 pinks on Addicted's lawn was over 6 lbs. And none of the 25+ fish Stam and I released that night were over 6 lbs.

Another interesting thing....out of the 28 (I kept one) harvested pinks only four were female. Females yet to come?

What ever happened to the good old bulk lead-headed bare bass jigs and slapped with a pink skirt?

Fast, easy, deadly, and way cheap.

If you're buying pre-tied jigs, you're probably spending WAY too much.

Think bass. Think bulk.

If you're buying "pink gear" in a store that sells salmon gear, you're probably paying too much.

I think I got all of my "bass gear" at Angler's Choice up near Edmonds. A predominantly bass oriented tackle shop. They will have the leaded jig hooks in bulk and cheap. Probably has the pink skirts, too. All cheap. Oh yeah, black, purple, white bass skirts all worked well. I liked the the pink and purple ones myself.

PS. Don't forget to pinch those bards on those jigs! Not only will the hook penetrate the snout of the humpy better, but it's a heck of a lot easier to release the bazillion humpoids you're going to catch.
