Do use pencil lead or just fish it without weight?

Those are sea run cutthroat killers in hood canal too. Good for you, sounds like you are taking advantage of your local fishery and have it dialed in too.-TBJ

Rognsue ... thanks for the advice. May the fish gods continue to smile on you. I'll give that a try next time I go out there.

When this wad of fish hits the rivers, your line will be pulling non-stop. Maybe I'll come hit the Snoho this week for a change of pace. Your record will fall soon I'm sure.

Addicted...have you caught any of the extra large ones ??? Sue had one wed. night that after a 75 yd surface breakin run[i'm thinkin 1st coho] we chased it down and it was a 10-11lb pink, a monster... I've landed a handful of 8lb + pinks, maybe 2 or 3, nothing over 10 though...Probably a fish that spent an extra year or two out at sea....

All the fish I have seen have been small, nothing over 7lbs. I usually just twitch Pink Jigs or 50/50 Dick nites do the trick. The number are always stupid, in a week or two I think there will be a big rush. I need some Silvers!!!

As the shelves at Wal Mart go bare......pretty cool of you to post a picture of what USED to be your Super Secret Humpy Jig. I agree, hoppin' 1/8 jigs is probably the most deadly technique for Snoho pinks.
Although it looks like the first four in your picture are over 6 lbs., I'd say the fish are average in terms of size this year. No 15 lb. Humpzillas (2001 was a very unique year for size) and reaching double digits will be difficult; they are all two year fish.
We had a pretty good sample size Saturday night.....not one of the 27 pinks on Addicted's lawn was over 6 lbs. And none of the 25+ fish Stam and I released that night were over 6 lbs.
Another interesting thing....out of the 28 (I kept one) harvested pinks only four were female. Females yet to come?

What ever happened to the good old bulk lead-headed bare bass jigs and slapped with a pink skirt?
Fast, easy, deadly, and way cheap.
If you're buying pre-tied jigs, you're probably spending WAY too much.
Think bass. Think bulk.
If you're buying "pink gear" in a store that sells salmon gear, you're probably paying too much.
I think I got all of my "bass gear" at Angler's Choice up near Edmonds. A predominantly bass oriented tackle shop. They will have the leaded jig hooks in bulk and cheap. Probably has the pink skirts, too. All cheap. Oh yeah, black, purple, white bass skirts all worked well. I liked the the pink and purple ones myself.
PS. Don't forget to pinch those bards on those jigs! Not only will the hook penetrate the snout of the humpy better, but it's a heck of a lot easier to release the bazillion humpoids you're going to catch.
