Driving home from fishing last night I was crossing the narrows bridge and two cars were stopped in the far right lane. I thought it was a stall and when I slowed I saw 2 guys holding back a dude from jumping. The jumper was over on the water side of the rail and each of the guys had an arm so the guy wouldn't go. I got out and ran over and tried to help out best I could. One guy ended up being a cop who had cuffs in his car. He instructed me to go get them and when I returned with the gear the jumper was back on the more lively side of the rail and got cuffed and settled down somewhat. I stuck around for a bit and was shakin up. The two guys who held this dude back are heroes.I don't know how they are doing mentally but I saw a fraction of the picture show they did and I tossed and turned all night. I hope they are doing OK. And the guy who was attempting to jump I feel very bad for. He claimed relationship troubles caused him to go that far. Young guy looked normal as ever. I didn't get a chance to talk much with the two guys holding the guy back and am curious to the time line of what went down and know that their are sone law enforcement guys on this site so if you have any info or contacts let me know. The bridge filled up with cops quicker than all hell making things even more of a disaster and less feesable to talk more with the guys. Thanks in advance. Pretty freaky deal. In the past I have had little remorse for someone who wants to check out by their own will, but that changed 360 last night. Life is so friggin precious it kills me to imagine if that kid had jumped. If any one knows the kid best wishes and hope he can get better.

The average jumper off of the Golden Gate is a white male in his 40's. Heard that on the radio. Even here most go unreported to the public as they don't wish to encourage others.

Many years ago I canme home to my apartment in fife to find all my girlfriends stuff gone and the power turned off. That next morning I parked on the Gig Harbor side of the Narrows and walked out across to mid-span feeling the wind of passing trucks and staring down through the fog to the water below.

I stopped and peered over...

...And tossed her car keys over the side, chuckling all the way back.

It's nice when past events can still bring you joy.
