Last year I tried growing red peppers in the garden. No dice.
This year I tried again. I've got about a dozen that are close to the store bought size.
All the peppers are green right now. The label says red peppers. Do they turn red like a tomato when they are done or was the plant mislabled?
This has to be the tamest dark side post ever.

Why the bias against green peppers? Are you a vegetable racist? They can't help being green.

They start out green then turn red as they mature. You should be happy with whatever god gave you in your garden you snob!

Thanks for the info. I've been making a lot of tomato sauce lately. Good stuff.

Forget the pepers in the garden, how's the oregano in the basement doing?

And then relax when done in the garden.

Seastrike,

Invest in a indoor growing light, you could use CFL lamps, but a MH or HPS (better yet one of ea.) would do best.

You can grow peppers that will blow your mind apart, and it's all done indoors, so the "season" is what you tell the plant it is.

SOL: I had a dream about a room like that last night...and kept hearing that odd country tune "Heaven's just a sin away"...

Only down side is that "someone" is going to have a hell of a power bill before any of that meat hits the table...

Good idea Mike. I actually have a 400W MH from a previous endevour (many years ago).
The peppers are big and I've got a dozen or so on the one plant. If they don't turn red soon I'm bringing em to elk camp green.

Next question. I've got one zuke that keeps flowering but never produced. It was crowded (small garden). Is that the problem? Someone yesterday asked if I had bees visiting the garden. Didn't know how to answer that one.

try this, start with a raised bed , cover that with black plastic mulch you can get that at home depot, then make some hoops out of wire then cover with clear plastic sort of like a small greenhouse. peppers need heat ! as for your zuke do you have just one plant or more then one

I've got 6 Jalapeno plants in raised beds and have been eating/giving away some of the biggest peppers I've ever raised. One plant had some issues early on, but a little fungicide spray cured it. Also have two Habaneros, one stunted but the other is in great shape with good-sized peppers. Just moved it into the green house two weeks ago to keep it warm with the fall nights. 11 tomatoes plants all did well, but have to go out today and see what damage the hour long hail storm did last night.

The beauty of a veg garden? Last Thursday I caught a couple coho on the Snohomish, barbecued one filet and enjoyed corn, jalapenos, onions and tomatoes from the garden with it. Of course the cigar and bottle of Cab Sav didn't hurt.

I'm with Snake and Seastrike. I have a huge garden as well as 20 plus fruit trees, and many berries. Garden is about done but here is a photo of a pumpkin I "engraved' fro my grand daughter.

I have roughly 12 big beautiful pumpkins I will give to anyone who wants one for their kids.

Pm me your number again Dave. I'm going to be in Duval on Wednesday to sight in my gun for the elk trip.
I'll take one of those pumpkins for Brent.
Any luck with the shrooms?
