Being a guide is more then being able to catch fish!

Being a guide is a 24/7/ 365 day a year job!

Being a guide and making money takes longevity!

Being a guide should mean you love your job!

Being a guide means you now need to be a politician at the same time!

It's hard work that can be very rewarding. The most important thing is to be a good people person. Nobody wants to fish with an jerk. The hardest thing for me with guiding is remembering everyones names. I forget three minutes after they tell me. I can remember anyones phone number but cannot remember a name to save my butt. Try remembering 600 peoples names and faces. I have one client named Bob that I have been calling him Mike for two years. It finally dawned on me this fall when I looked at the name on this check. I felt like a fool.

"A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work" unless you are a fishing guide, then "a bad day fishing, is a bad day fishing" ;\)

And if you want cake, eat breakfast and order lunch at the Forks Coffee Shop. Their guide cake is guaranteed to add inches to your draft, and known to throw of the the CG if carelessly placed \:D

The three or four original Sled guides on the Skagit all worked at Skagit Steel before it closed and were part time guides and became full time guides after lay-off, It was a good thing for them! They still bitched up a storm about the Asian Steel screwing them out of their jobs. They are all dead and gone now, but had a great guide life back them.

Kevin, I actually had clients show up this past year and insist on wearing names tags on the front and back of them! Made it really simple No joke!

Guess I'm gonna have to start doing the name tag thing. One day last summer in Alaska I had three generations in the boat. Grandpas name was Kevin, as were the son and grandson. What a great day. 4 Kevin's in one boat.
I figured I'd just start calling everyone Bob. Makes it so simple that way.

I heard you need to change your moniker to LoweHole.

Can you help me out with the buttons to get it done, Bob?

It's the only gig in town all summer long. Sometimes you have to play along or eat [censored].

Damn...this thread took a weird turn.

Guide Fact: You have to be willing to be on the water all the time and not get to spend hardly any of it, if any of it at all, fishing.

Not something this guy is willing to do.

Fish on...

Todd

Ya, if that is how you imagine it, then you shouldn't become a guide. I do the guiding thing to be on the water everyday the fishing is good. If it's not good fishing, then I don't go. Most of my clients are good fiends as well as patrons. If I didn't fish durring the day it is because the boat already has 4 guys fishing. Otherwise I fish everyday. If I don't fish, my clients tell me to get a line in the water. 95% of the time they want you to fish. They have a better chance to take home fish if you have more lines in the water.

If you are a driftboat guide and you sidedrift steelhead without a motor, then you are one of the unlucky ones who gets stuck on the oars. Not the worst place to be in the cold winter days.

I can't imagine spending my life anywhere else but on the water. I cant get enough. Even when I'm not fishing, I still love being on the water.

Ahhh, not so, senior. I stuff a rod under my ass and sidedrift 45 degrees out the back behind the two in the bow and about half the time come up with more fish than the guys I'm fishing. It's all about set-up and multi-tasking.
