I use an improved clinch knot tied to a screw link. I snug it down, then coat the knot with Shoe-goo. It will never come undone, and the Shoe-goo adds to the abrasion resistance.
I can switch out anchors at any time, and I don't have to tow the boat down a bumpy road with the anchor in the boat.
Start with a dry rope.

Bowline comes to mind here as well. Advantage? Doesn't bind on anchor eye and can be untied.

Bowline and tie down the end with plastic sinch straps. You would go through the rope before the knot gave way.

Something to do with a rabbit that comes out of its hole, round the tree and back down the hole again.
Or, in boaters terms, a bowline.
fp This is what I use also, never had a failure.

I have used a boline and clinch know but I always put a whip finish on the tag end because I mysteriously lost an anchor on the Bogachiel in the middle of a drift. This year I spliced my anchor on... it wasn't that hard and it drives me crazy to have the anchor swing while you row. This way the line is still small enough to pull all the way into the first pulley. Another trick my buddy uses is to split a tennis ball and pull your knot up into it to keep the anchor from swinging. To each his own Splicing directions- http://www.machovec.com/rope/splicing/db_eye.htmGood luck!

I use the quadruple, double, triple granny square knot, with the improved twister on the tag end.
I'm not sure what that is, but the only anchor I've ever lost was when I *used* to have a carabiner on the end of the rope for taking the anchor on and off...now I just take the whole rope and all off when I'm travelin'...it only takes about thirty seconds to string it back in.
Fish on...
Todd
