What is everyones plan for June 1st? I am planning on fishing the Sky but I am worried that with the closure of the Columbia Tribs for springers that it is going to be more of a Sh*t show then normal. I am going to fish it no matter what becuase I am jonesing, it will be funny to see 100 dudes fishing for 25 chinook that dont bite.

For many years My Dad and I would fish the Green River (king county) above the palmer fish hatchery. Trout were are target, We would wade across hitting all the holes we could till we got to our honey hole. Many years we would pull out a steelhead or two. One year that sticks out clearly. We worked out way to the honey hole. We allways stayed behind and approached the holes behind big rocks to conceal ourselves. I allways loved doing that it added to the fun when I was a kid. Stocking our pray. Well this year what do we see, 10 to 15 Steelhead porpuseing along the far bank. The hole is about 20 feet wide at best and around 50 feet long. Their at the tail out in about 3 to 4 feet of water. We took turns casting to them. Most of the water was wasnt very deep so we would use whole night crawlers and no weight just free drift the bait. My dad hooks up on his first cast the fish went ballistic and head to the middle of the river and faster current. We are wadding after it so doesnt get spooled. The fish is about 150 feet down stream. Now the fish changes directions and freight trains upstream so fast dad could keep up. Where does this fish go? Directly thru his legs, His eyes and mine are as big as dinner plates. It gets about 20 feet above us and hits reverse but this time on the outside of him. Dad is doing his best imitation of someone with their foot on fire. He is spinning lifting his leg doing his best to get untangled from his leg. The line tightens and that familure snap that sounds like a shotgun blast. No more fish. We carefully make out way back to the hole. They are still all their. In the next hour or so we hooked about 8 or 10 more until we both had our limits. One of the fish My dad caught that day was a 6 pound rainbow in the same hole. We also limited on Trout, If I remember correctly the limit was 12 a piece back then. That was a heck of a day with 2 limits of steelhead and 2 limits of trout with one about 6 pounds. Dad and I smiled for a week after that day. Still brings a smile to my face thinking about it. I didnt realize back then how lucky I was to have a Dad that loved to fish. That and a Grandfather that loved it also and so much that he lived on the river and you could see the honey hole from his house.

I know you were asking where people were fishing on the first and I went on a little long but it brought back some good memories from 30 plus years ago. Dad is till around but at 83 he isnt wading the river anymore. BUt he loves to get on my boat and hit the water. Good luck to you all. I am thinking I may have to check the opener date on the Green and make a trip afterwork one night. Their are a couple of other good holes I know my dad can still walk into and fish from shore that we have pulled many of fish out in the past. I am sure he would enjoy that.

Troller, the Green is gonna' have to shed a ton of water to get down to a good level by June 1st. With a week or so till opener she's runnin' 59.42 cubes or so (for past week) and not dropping a bit. Lotsa luck!

Quick Reiter question.

Regs say that from June 1- Aug 1 , Sky is closed from 1500' above Reiter outlet to 1000' below the outlet. Is there anything that marks it?

Does that mean from cable hole down is open?

I was down at MA 13 a couple weeks ago and drove past Pt. Def. I've never seen so many seals. Hopefully they will move on before june 1

The Sky deadline is not marked. The cable hole is open as it is more than 2000 ft below the mouth of the creek. The upper deadline is just below the boulder drop, again there is no deadline marker. It is where the game warden says it is. The lower daedline is in the rapids above the cable hole.

I remember when you wouldn't see a soul on the Sky in June. Now it's a sled fest zoo. No thanks.

I thought I'd be puttin' the whoopin' on a few hundred shad at Bonneville dam with my ultra-light trout rod... but the counts ain't lookin' too good so far. Hopefully they take a huge jump this week... which they should.

I am pretty sure we are gonna do the upper drift in order to stay away from the Sleds. I did hear that the upper river, (From High Bridge to Sultan) has changed a lot this year I guess we will just be cautious.

That can be said about a lot of rivers anymore. I fished the Calawah last year on the opener. Won't be doing that again.
