we hit the opener, released 1 wild king around 5lbs, couple shakers, bunch of mini-halibut, dogfish, and a scallop. trolled the west bar, mooched pnp, trolled pilot point til 1:30. no keepers except 5 crab. lost what was probably a nice fish in the "fag show" on the west bar. some jackass swung in behind us and got all his junk tangled up in my outdrive--bye-bye fish. overheard 2 guys fighting about who's fault their boat collision was. dude in alumaweld :"I'm very sorry your boat got hit, but we were not under power, and we were fighting a fish" fat old guy with shirt off and too much back hair: "huh?"

better luck next time (tide)

TJC,

I think we left the ramp right in front of you, also GPS to President Point, stopped to fish when we could see about 50 yards. A few minutes after we got our gear in the water we came to bait on the surface and birds. made a pass through and had an immediate double header , silvers, lost one and kept one, a second pass was a repeat. With two silvers we went deep to try for kings but not a hit the rest of the morning. Called it a day a 9 AM.

Any recent reports from PNP or Kingston?

Day 4 report without many details as fishing is TOUGH...we landed the biggest king brought into shilshole today along with a chipped white king and a nice silver for july...5 kings for 30 boats when we took out and all pretty small so we felt good about our day. IMO the fish are still north and west...when they show it will be lights out but right now it is tough having to scratch all day for a few fish. 18 lb/12lb Kings and 5lb silver today...cheers

I took my friends 15 year old sister and her 7 year old niece to JH last night and fished with my new favorite hootchie and the 15 year old caught a very nice 18 lber for her 1st salmon...it was a blast to watch her reel it in. She had a hard time but we got the fish....

Tough fishing lame its funny how they get hard to catch when the season opens. We had 3 fish in the 10-18lb range this morning between 6:30 and 8:00. I thought maybe we were on to something banana But then trolled for 4 more hours for 1 shaker. Their is a large variety of Forage fish in the Sound rite now. I have found large 6-8" Herring, small 4" Anchovie, and small 2-3" Candlefish. From what I have found in fish the majority of the bait in the north part of the Sound is small Anchovie and candlefish. The fish and heavy bait have been deep for me, 100-220' zones.

Matt

I forgot to add that one of the fish we caught this morning had 3 small bird feathers in its stomach eek2

Hit the west side of possesion the last 2 days. no fish and very few take downs. Didn't see any fish caught today and the water got a little sloopy as the day went on. Called it quits around 10am (4am start) will try again tommorow...

Hit Jeff head this morning 4:45am to 10:15am. We had one fish on and it was a hog. My buddy said it was one of the most powerful fish he's had. Played it for about 10 min, took five big runs, had to chase it down to avoid getting spooled. Unfortunately its last big run was shallow right at another boat, we were yelling and waving to get them to get out of the way so we could stay on top of it. But they took too long to get organized and we got tangled in their gear and the fish busted off. frown

The real bummer was we weren't even in a crowd. Only two other boats even remotely close to us and the fish has to make a bee-line toward one of them frown. Pretty dissappointing end to an exiciting battle.

Otherwise seemed pretty slow out there, fish checker had one fish for 26 boats when we took out.

Fished Jeff Head got a 16# early, went to Pilot and released a nice 10# wild silver (too bad we weren't in 10), but it was pretty darn slow. Our fish was the only one checked at Kingston when we came in at 10:30. Now time to sleep, off to the airport to pick up my wife and daughter at 11pm then sleep for a couple more hours and back at it tomorrow. Heard the fish are up in Northern 9 up in Pt townsend area. Running.....on....fumes.

We fished around Double Bluff and went 2-3 on Chinook and landed 1 bonus silver.

Lots of candlefish around and the coho killer was the only lure producing fish. All fish were DEEP as Sky-Guy said.

Here is a crappy phone picture of the big fish - 31 inches and fat. I admit to enhancing the belly for the wife's scrapbook page, but nice fish regardless. The other king was around 15 pounds. Silver was about 4 pounds.

After a slow day yesterday we had an hour this morning of all out nuts fishing. Between three boats and 8 guys we we hit 6 keeper kings, 1 native and 4 silvers in a one hour stretch. The hatchery kings were from 12-22lbs with the high twenties native fish released. We saw about 20 other fish boated in that time span, then it just went dead, maybe a few other fish caught here and there. My brother has pics, I'll try to get him to post them. All fish on hootchies at 60ft on the riggers. Off to Spokane for a week, hopfully that quota will last until we get back.
