Heard a report of some shallow coho on saturday and had to go investigate. Sure enough we found them jumping all over the place and chasing sandlance.
They were extremely selective but I found a very light colored popper in my fly box that proved to be the ticket. Almost a ginger over polar bear color.
landed lots and lots of fish saturday, not so many on sunday.
really nice to get the fly rod out and get torn up a little bit by some nice size coho.

Good to hear. You got some great beaches up near you. Just wondering, were these resident silvers and about how big did they run. I know of some places up here that hold silvers at times and am just wondering if it would be worth chasing them yet. Thanks.

fish from 10 inches up to 8 pounds.
there have been pods of fish. if you find a pod it is great, otherwise it is tough.
Keep moving until you find them.

D3,
I ran into such a pod over the weekend and was kicking myself for not having a fly rod. My 3 pc. Sage now has a permanent home on the Lund for the next oppertunity. What would a basic saltwater Coho fly box consist of? I have cought them incidentally in the past while cutthrought fishing so I would assume it's pretty similar?

Keep up the great reports and pics and thanks in advance!

For feeding silvers in the salt I usually have...
clousers... pink/olive/chartruese would be the basic 3 colors
epoxy baitfish... ranging from peacock backed to a light gray or tan
Poppers... all pink, pink/white, and then natural variations like the epoxy baitfish.

just out of curiosity, what do you like to use for non feeding silvers in tide-water or lower rivers. Thanks for the advice

I mainly fish spiders for the staging fish in the salt/estuary.
Once they hit the rivers I think its tough to beat egg-sucking leeches of various sizes.

Hey D3, do you have pics of your boat? Man I need to get one, I'm sure I would get into more fish in a boat in the salt than when I had my pretty drift boat in the rivers.

You guys hang out in hood canal alot don't you?

thanks for the info!
