People will respect something that they have to put in the time and figure it out on their own.. In my opinion, Why should it be handed to them when I had to put in countless hours and hundreds upon hundreds of dollars even thousands in fuel figuring this stuff on my own? Someone wants to give me $500 I'll throw em a bone, but until then, they can figure stuff out on their own... Most zipperlip streams are obviously smaller water.. I dont want to see a bunch of jackasses tromping up and down, fishing pocket water that may only have a couple of fish in them, when they did nothing to deserve the info, and then leave a bunch of trash there.. Ain't gonna happen..

The annual "I don't know where everyone's secret fishing spots are, I can't catch any fish and it pisses me off" thread is upon us once again! wink

I've got some advice for the newbies on the board that are ranting about this... Go out, lay the groundwork on this stuff, and post a report on it yourself before squawking about others not posting their stuff.. I'm willing to bet you'd be just as quiet about it as well..

i agree tommy, im tired of this [Bleeeeep!], u know hows this river doing, or crap like that, i mean sure send me a private message and im cool with that, but dont put up a post on it. As long as im ranting im tired of hearing about chums as well, who gives a crap, catching a chum is not hard so we don't need to have chum fishing 101 every 2-3 days! time for bed, and this thread to get locked up...my bad

Mreyns,

A man after my own heart. Shouldn't the PP board "award" official demerits for every chum hooked and double demerits for each one landed?

not quite so sincerely,

It's kind of funny, but I haven't seen any one ask about a specific spot or complain about not hearing about one. I started this thread with two intentions, one, to encourage people to get off the main rivers and explore, and two to put in a slight slam against people who take the elistist attitude that they are better than the guys at "that river", then follow the crowds to the bogacheil and stand in line to cast. To be honest, I have no desire to drive 4 hours and stand in a crowd. I, though, like the rest of you, like to catch fish. For that reason, I will do it somtimes and other times head off to be by myself. Some of you guys need to start fly fishing, you are half way there already.

Krijack,

You're right; I should start fly fishing. Wait, I did start. In 1968, I think, but it really didn't take hold 'til 72 when I learned to cast well. So do you think if I start wielding a weighted 4/0 along the Bogie I could clear out some casting room? Imagine trying that at Blue Creek. Yikes, that wouldn't bring out the best in people, now would it?

Salmo g. I am just curious as to why you ,et al, are so Pecksniffian anent folks who fish for Chum. I really like to catch them, especially out on the saltchuck while they are still chrome. But they are still fun to catch in rivers, e.g., The Green. It is somewhat of a challenge to cause them actually bite and they give a decent fight even after they are in the rivers.

Oh holy're out than thou MYRENS. Never thought i would here someone complain about trying to help others to catch fish. truth be told I think steelhead bite as well as chum. But funny, I have never seen you bash those posts. and those are ongoing and very informative. Wait.....kinda like the chum posts. i think you need to take a step down from the throne your on in your own mind and understand that some ppl arent the royal fisherman you are, they like to catch any fish that bites. its the thrill. Some are also new to the whole fishing expierience. Or maybe...jsut maybe....they like catching fish!!! OH mY GOSH WHAT A CONCEPT. So the next time you want to insert your foot halfway in your mouth remeber that no one is smarter than everyone....and your bashing a informative fishing post.......ON A FISHING FORUM WEB SITE. thats like bashing gay ppl ina parade on gay pride day

I personally think people need to just take a minute and show some respect... Every year we see these threads.. and every year people need to realize that these smaller streams CANNOT handle the pressure of big crowds.. They aren't tokul creek, they are not the cowlitz... The second they start getting totally hammered is the day that boom.. All of a sudden I just caught 1 fish for 3 days of fishing and now theres trash everywhere...

Some things really just need to be respected from a certain point of view, and there are a few people contributing on this board that need to learn how to show that respect... Call me an elitist, call me whatever you want, but make sure you'd be willing to say it to my face and stand your ground.

Mergantroider: Sounds like your lips were made to suck. Go put them to good use.

Seriously, we've all seen our fishing spots, secret or not, go to shi% because of the fuc%in' internet. I've done my own damage I know. PM's and private emails are the way to go on location. He's not wrong on the chums either.

1. Chum fishing is fine...it's a good way to learn how to fish for other salmon and steelhead, and it's a good way to introduce others to river fishing, too, especially kids, since they're numerous and easy to catch.

2. The reason you're not going to hear specifics about small streams is, well, because they're small, and so are their fish runs, relatively speaking.

Small zipperlips can provide excellent fishing for a few people, decent fishing for a few more people, and crappy fishing for everyone if a lot of people show up. We're not talking about a run of 40,000 chums in a river where everyone can go catch as many as they want, even take a few home if they're so inclined, and leave many, many more to spawn.

We're talking about runs of fish that number in the low hundreds...and if three guys are all that is fishing over it, it can be exceptional. I'll take four miles of river, with 100 fish in it, for three guys, over four miles of fish in it, with 1500 fish in it, for 150 guys, any day...it's just a different, and in my opinion superior experience.

I'm a big fan of sharing techniques...the "how to" is good for the sport, and good for everyone who participates. I'll glady give driving directions to Reiter, Blue Creek, or anywhere else that there are already hundreds of fishermen...but the smaller spots where I really enjoy myself, it ain't gonna happen. The lack of people is part of the experience, and I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot by sharing it with folks on the internet. Period.

Elitist? Sure...I want the best experience possible, and the best fish and fishing possible, and for me that doesn't include hordes of anglers chasing clouds of hatchery fish.

Will I fish in those fisheries? Sure, on occasion...sometimes they're the only game in town, and sometimes the social aspects of lots of folks around can make it fun...but those aren't why I steelhead fish.

It is not disrespectful to decline to give away your fishing holes...and I don't think it's disrespectful to ask about them, either...but if you don't get the answer you're looking for, it is disrespectful to complain about it.

Fish on...

Todd
