A clean "DRY" pair of underwear would be in order after a ordeal like that.....very scary stuff, glad to hear everyone made it ok.....

A realistic reminder to always have life jackets

I'd like know what the final reason was for it to start sinking, let us know if you can
(why did it crack, just a bad weld?)
Thanks

Glad to hear that everyone made it out of this healthy. Wild photos and a real wake up to all of us with welded boats. I certainly would like to know what the final reason the weld failed, or what ever the cause for this to happen.
Hindsight truly is 20/20 and I hope that everyone can learn from this near tragedy.

was running on a hairy remote bc river, coming downstream from camp and broke the cardinal rulle of jet boating... never take your eyes off the river, even for a second! I glanced to my left to look at a nice run, looked back to see a 50 to 60 ft long sweeper mostly blocking the channel I was running, no time to turn, so I backed off the throttle, then hammered it about 6 ft in front of the sweeper; I successfully got the bow up on the sweeper(which was about 2ft. above the water) then it stuck, we both slammed our heads on the windsheild and the 12mph current flipped us in about a millisecond... My Dad side of the boat was the side that went down, so he got kicked out towards shore, the boat rolled on top of me and I got pinned under water for a bit, then managed to get out from under the boat and climb on it while it was upside down. As soon as I climbed o it, it started smashing rocks pretty good and I had to bail off it because it was headed for another nast jam about 100 ft below the sweeper tht flipped us. I managed t swim to shore, it was a lesson kearned because it's dang hard to swim with no life jacket and chest waders without a wading belt... Getting it out was a pain to becaause it was about 45km from the ramp, but that's another story....anyways here's some rebuild pics

That's quite an accident and amazing nobody was injured. The rebuild turned out great! Much different craft now than before eh?

we had a few cuts and bumps, both are heads were gashed up a bit from hitting the windsheild, but nothing needing stitches, other than that were a bit wet , cold and our pride was hurt just a bit. I like the rebuild way better than the original, you can't tell it was ever wrecked. I never wanted a windsheild, but my wife required it.

ok, I gotta chime in here. It's my understanding that the boat was an Alumaweld Stryker, right? Well I had the exact same thing happen to me in my 17' Stryker a few years ago at Columbia Beach. The seam of the hull weld split while out fishing and we had to beach the boat too. Luckilly we were close to shore when we noticed. To get in, we beached then bailed then beached then bailed over and over until we reached the launch in Everett.

It took a while to get straightened out but Alumaweld re-welded and put a brace in there and it never happened again but boy did I ever watch close after that.

I don't know if that's something that can happen to the Strykers but the same thing happening to two boats is quite a coincidence!

So tell me, how long did it take you to put on float coats or PFDs? I hope you had good stuff.

A buddy and I lost both motors out of Neah Bay a couple years ago due to water in the gas. I now have a floating vest and a good float coat. One or the other is being warn at all times on the boat. You never know when a freaky thing like this will occur.

Glad you all made it home safe.

I think you may all be taking Ryley's "statement" as fact. I think you all better think again......what really happened will probably come out but don't take everything you read as fact.

I think CM is saying that SG was just funnin' and his post isn't an official USCG or NTSB report.

Dude's I have "inside" info. I think SkyGuy took MY phone pics and comments on the day of the event and made a statement based in humor.
When all is said and done between the owner of the boat, insurance, and the mighty 3 Rivers which I frequent often in need of fishing related items I will make a post. My original post was for entertainment, info, and story value. This was an interesting day in my fishing life, and just so ya know, the conclusion when all is said and done will gladly be put on the board for more info, entertainment, and story value. I haven't read all the replies on here as I've had a disfunctional computer as of late due to me. Thankfully Todd hooked me up so I can be back online. I did hear of some disfunctional happenings between various parties and thought I'd make this reply to defuse any problems from continuing happening. I am off to go play Guitar Hero at my buddies house and drink good beer. Have a good night, and I'll see ya on the board later. I will tell you this in the meantime. $hit happens, especially on the water, no particular brand or weather is necessary the problem. $hit just happens. I'll fill in the proper blanks at the right time. In the mean time, go fish, if ya can find some clean water, Catch fish, and eat well. When I get back home I will have a beer induces happiness so don't mess it up for me.
